In the "new Navy" drill instructors are not allowed to physically touch or use indecent language on the recruits (our Company Commander asked our "permission" to call us "fuck nuts" and we said yes without hesitation). But that doesn't mean that your fellow recruits won't beat the crap out of you after lights out. When one person is fucking up everyone has to suffer( watch Platoon if you don't know what I'm talking about). The defecation routine takes some intestinal fortitude to pull off and your fellow recruits will be less likely to beat on you if it means getting excrement or urine on them
But like Realschmeal says the Navy is a good place to be if you want to travel around the world, get fucked up on every drug imaginable and collect venereal diseases...that's what I did for 6 years.
