Cool Poppy Garden Time

Ok it's that time of year again. Time to sow some poppy seeds. I just ordered 6grams of Papaver Somniferum Giganteum Seeds. They'll be in by Tues or Wednesday of next week and I plan on sowing them directly after. I have a bed prepared that I used last year. The soil is great and ready to go after a quick weeding. I already got some action going on as some bulbs I planted last spring have grown nicely.

Anyway I sowed several grams of papaver seeds last spring and got nothing. It probably sounds crazy but I think the fire ants stole all of my seeds cause I didn't get any! I say ants b/c I saw them scurrying all over through the bed and it looked like they were carryin lil white dots that looked suspiciouly like my poppy seeds.

THE LIL BASTARDS

So this year i'll hit the bed with some fire ant poison this weekend in hopes of avoiding a similiar disaster.

Anyone with experience growing poppies have any advice?

Peace
