I heard that too. They like to "winter" and then germinate. We're still getting some cold weather here. Not freezing but some good cold front action. Other sources say that it's not necessary at all. hmm...i wonder what the weather in Afghanistan is like???? You could probably throw some seed packs in the fridge for a couple of weeks and then sow them.
I pickup some "Ant Shield" today which should take care of that problem. I stayed away from the mound killer type and opted for a yard treatment variety.
We'll see how it goes I'd love to have several lush beds of poppies this year!
