i was thinking about a simple A/B extraction,
before basifying, you should wash the syrup
with naphtha [like a cm or so in a 2liter bottle] to
remove anything naphtha soluble [which should not
include the codeine, which would probably occurr
as codeine phosphate]. these include nasties like
noxious syrup flavorings that could end up in the final
product.
then you could basify the hell out of it with NaOH..
the guaifenesin should sort of become a bubbly oil at the surface and you
could remove most of it with a separatory funnel..
and,,

solubility: 800mg will dissolve in 100cc of water. [freebase codeine]
but that numer means that ther could be major losses.
i'm not chemistry expert though, so maybe
it wouldn't lead to losses.. maybe [since it'd be more soluble in
naphtha] codeine that's already dissolved in the water would
be coaxed to go dissolve in the naptha instead because [speaking
in terms of solubility potential] the naphtha is far less saturated than
the water?
idk, someone give it a try. i don't have any syrup.
or, if anyone has knowledge/experience they could clairify.
