I have been prescribed Ambien on more than one occasion for sleep problems, and I eventually told them to stop prescribing it. It makes me irritable - no, it makes me nearly
homicidal the next day. Plus it gives me serious hangover drowsy the next day.
My doc then gave me Sonata. This is my kind of sleeping pill. You can take it with only 4 hours of sleep and not wake up drowsy. No aftereffects of any kind, that I could notice. And it comes on with nice closed-eye visuals, as well. I also could get these wonderfully vivid, lucid dreams on Sonata that I could never get with Ambien.
For me, the trick to Sonata is to drink a few cups of coffee before going to bed, enough to keep me semi-conscious for a while. Then I would lay down on my back, close my eyes, and let the good times roll!
