Thumbs up Oh poooz! (pull up a stool fellaz :P)

Howdy fellaz

Today has been fairly productive in the grow sense. The tubs are colonizing stronger and faster, and although it feels like its taking forever, I’m feeling pretty damn positive about it.
About the control jar idea buck, you’re absolutely on the money I think. It’s a shame I only thought of a control jar (or had it suggested to me) after inoculation. I think I might have inadvertently made one. I have one jar that hasn’t colonized AT ALL. I mean, NADA. :P which seems a bit out of the ordinary considering that every single jar has some sign of colonization. Eh, one way it’s a slow bloomer, the other way it’s a control jar, so it’s all gravy
I know everyone keeps swearing by flaming their needles, but I can’t say I ever have or ever would. I have absolutely no shortage of tips, so using a new medical tip for every jar isn’t at all out of the question. I’ve had people go on and on about how important flame sterilizing a needle is, but for the life of me I don’t see how anyone can suggest the professional manner in which needles are sterilized in their packaging is going to be less effective then flaming ourselves. It’s just ludicrous. These things are made to enter the human body. I seriously seriously doubt a new out of the pack tip has any form of contams on it! (Well, that’s my view anyway).
I’ll definitely get them 3 jars into the ground tomorrow. I have to spend a little time working on my Papavar garden, so I might just make a day of the gardening: D

Young papivar Somniferums (Indian whites)

Never too early for poo you say!!? Well its play time then I guess buck! , because the fingers has two lovely big bags of horse nuggets from the local horse ranch. $2 a bag, fresh from the horses ass (I know, I looked for the driest I could find, but I could only get semi hard nuggets, none had been there long enough to get dry dry.
The money from the bags goes to a local horse riding program for disabled and handy capped kids (isn’t that cute ) so it’s great to know my cultivation is providing a valuable charitable service. Makes you feel good inside :P

giddyup horsey's!

The farm is littered with hay bails for the animals feed, and as you can see the hey content is high. If I should still be mixing hay into the substrate, I might go buy some from the friendly farm. I’m sure they’d sell me a sack of it if I asked. Sure as hell would be cheaper then small $10 bags I saw at the damn pet store!! Anyway, $4 for two bags that was almost too heavy to carry. Of course a lot of this weight will be moisture, but it’s still a damn lota shit for $4 I would think!
Oh BTW, I'm amazed you didn't do the usual generalisation about aussies being in the country (thus being familiar with horse poo)
But in answer, yes I am familiar with horse nuggets. My family used to have a farm when i was a child, so turds of all forms are familiar to fingers! :P

MAN! You are NOT WRONG about them damn slime moulds! Or should I say ‘fungus animals’! lol god that’s some weird shit man! A two meter single celled organism?? Lol lord it sounds like a physical impossibility almost doesn’t it! The fact that they ‘breath’ oxygen rather then CO2 like ‘other plants’ is enough to blow your mind in a sense. I think I’ll leave this aspect of mycology alone for a little bit yet! Don’t wanna overload my mental hard drive :P

Re: the log book, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. And I know exactly what you mean about remembering so much better. Have you every read an old diary from when you where ten years younger? And remembered each and every day (almost) when you read it? So yeah, definitely a something I’m going to make a habit of.

This is the brick of coir I bought today. I paid $7 AUD for a brick that makes 60 liters (litres in Aus English) so that should do a good amount of the substrate!. I still have to work out the quantities and of what exactly. Maybe a horse poo, hey, coir mix. Someone mentioned Bran in chat last night, any thought anyone? (Buck?).

Last image is a bag of polyfil I got today also.
Polyfil being the brand name I just asked for ‘the stuff you use to stuff kids toys and pillows with’. I got this bag for under $4. This should be enough for a damn good start also.

Oh, one last thing before I get into some erbal remedies and chillin’. After a LOT of searching I found some Karo (even the brand name karo :P) I found some thick clear glucose syrup which said (derived from corn) on it, but hesitated for some reason. I know lazlo once said glucose works, but it seems that corn syrup is the product of choice for LC’s, so I kept chasing. I was fairly sure the ‘light karo’ (pale transparent) karo was what I wanted, but at $7 a bottle I thought I should make sure! They have the dark stuff also. I should get the light stuff yes? (I’m still tempted to get the glucose syrup…that stuff was way cheaper! (Then again….what’s $7 in the grand scheme of things, ah well, I’ll decide tomorrow I guess).

Thanks heaps for all your constant advice Buck! Although I’ve learned truck loads from all the mods posts! I find yours and pythons the most ‘noob friendly’. You manage to convey the concepts clearly and simply, yet address what needs to be known to get the job done (I’ve heard other members say the exact same thing too). You’re a kick ass mod buck, your help is so appreciated, thanks a ton mate.
That said, I’ve learned heaps from reading up on Lazlo’s work (the LC king it seems) Rev volunteered his help at any time in true mod/gentleman status, and pythons take on the PF tek is what I used to base my sterilization/inoculation on. Needless to say I’ve learned a mountain of info from the Hipsta, golly with his insane outdoor grows, and honestly….all other mods are always a comforting source of info in times of confusion. Its clear mod status isn’t given lightly…so when a mod is kind enough to reply (regardless of whom) it’s a wise course of action to listen!

Anyway guys, I know i've said it ten times, but 11 seems as good a number as any…Mycotopia rocks! Thank you!

A reminder why you should keep your WBS DRY while in storage :P
