Cool trip report mycobri. thanks for that.

Thanks for the comment hippie3, and to all who have posted.

Yes I'm a lycaeum/nook/bluelight member/browser too. But if you want to know the truth, Mycotopia is my favorite!

Thanks for posting the link to the gigathum LSA thread robman1, as it is difficult for non-members to locate...due to not being able to use the lycaeum search function without being a member...and it is after all deeply buried in the forum as it took me a very long time to locate (before I was a member).

*Notice what Stretchman has to say about everclear vs. vodka as the alcohol
of choice for the final tincture:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"it seems that one compound can be removed almost entirely with the pet ether, and the other is only present in any water found in whichever potable alcoholic solvent is used for making the final tincture. This is why it is important to use the purest possible alcohol for formulating the tincture; lower levels of water mean lower doses of "undesirables". I tried this with 100 proof vodka (many years ago, etc). This solution was not terribly strong and left me with a distinct feeling of nausea; not really where I wanted to be. 180 proof grain alcohol works wonders."

*This is what Stretchman had to say about "only alcohol/water mix extractions":
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ya think I could get decent results using nothing but 190proof Everclear and skip the Naptha, it sketches me out? You said 180 proof worked wonders but did you first do a Naptha wash or use it alone?

Thanks again

Peace

Stretchman replied:

"190 proof?!?! Go for it (this suggestion void where prohibited by law)!!!! I would strongly encourage the naptha wash though!
I used a naptha wash each time this extraction was performed. I would do a naptha wash first to weed out "undesirable" chemicals in the seeds. Even if the "undesirables" were inert rather than (slighty) malicious, the goodies would be more readily absorbed by the alcohol, if the solute is just goodies and not extraneous matter found in the seed. This means a more refined ("better") end product. Also, skipping the naptha wash will make the nausea factor more pronounced (way more so than a water extraction) and by the same token potentiate the weird effects from the other "undesirable" compound. The alcohol focuses these side effects into sharp relief when these compounds are in solution, probably making a person very sick, uncomfortable, and not *tripping* by any definition."

*This is what Stretchman had to say about using store-bought Naptha:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"My associate followed the above extraction instructions using naptha bought at a local hardware store (Crown brand, if I can say that here). He evaporated the seed mash for three full days on layers of paper towels, in front of a fan, stirring the seeds several times a day. After three days the seeds were totally dry and there was no trace of naptha when smelled, just a pleasant, mildly nutty smell. After completing the extraction into 190 proof grain alcohol, he tried it out, mixing the grain with cranberry juice (Great mixer, BTW!) To his horror, when he downed this mix there was a distinct PETROLEUM AFTERTASTE. Well, he didn't go through all that trouble just to let that stop him, so he tried to forget about it and enjoy the experience. On the plus side, the first four or five hour were very pleasant indeed, with mild prismatic visuals, bright colors, and deep mind expanding thoughts, and an overall feeling of goodness. On the down side, the next three DAYS consisted of headache, nausea, dizziness, visual distortion (not the good kind), fatigue, sleeplessness, stomach irritation, loss of appetite, and a general feeling of, "I am a dumbass, I poisoned myself, maybe I will die." (so says my associate) He feels all right now, but who know if there will be negative effects down the road.

Just a word to the wise, from the unwise. Good luck!

*Nogal had this to say about HBWR seeds vs. morning glory seeds:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I agree more test definately need to be done in this area, but its possible that pure LSA is alot different than whats in morning glory. Experentially HBWR seeds and morning glory shouldnt even be compared to one another, which indicates that there are other compounds at work. Morning glory is much more similiar to LSD in its visual properties than HBWR, which is more body oriented."

There is a huge list of chemicals about a page long that include things like dmso, petroleum ether, etc somewhere on the net...can't remember if it is exactly watched, but I do know that it is not restricted, like the other hundred or so chemicals in its category. It can be found at your local science hobby supplier/chem shop or elsewhere for doing dried ground beef (or other food product) fat analysis to determine its lipid content for example with science fair projects.

The tartaric acid (used to balance acidity of wine in wine/beer making hobbies) also sounds promising added at a 5% or so ratio to the final everclear extraction pull to aid in converting LSA material to stable long-lasting salt form. Tartaric acid is sometimes used in making an imitation lemon juice, or as a substitue for lemon juice.

I would really like to contact Peter Webster via email someday and get his comments on what his trips were like...I want details! One of the advanced members at bluelight (seems like a genius chromatograher too) was able to contact him and get his comments noted in the 1st post above concerning a few things. Chemistry is great and all but I want a trip report with that!

The kykeon is the active ingredient of the potion which inspired the great philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, artists, architects and poets of ancient Greece who we recognise as the progenitors of Western civilisation, the sacrament which was revelation for these greatest of the greats was an analogue of LSD: A naturally-produced lysergic acid alkaloid whose effects were identical to those of that "greatest of all evils," that "diabolical drug which destroyed a generation," that "fly now, die later drug," that "greater threat to the nation than the Vietnam War," (to quote merely a few of the more tame epithets that have been hurled at the revered sacrament of Eleusis in its newly discovered form.)
