A friend did a peruvian torch extraction using the Waylitjim tek with minor variations.

100 grams of PT powder (reported 1 – 1.2 % alkaloid content) was extracted with 2 liters of 2.5 M NaOH and 20 oz toluene in a 1-gallon jug. Five pulls were done and each was salted with acid water (8 drops of 31 % HCL/ 12 oz water). All 5 of the approx 100 ml acid water extracts ( approx. 500 ml total) were evaporated as they were pulled in the same dish producing some nice crystals. The greenish evaporate was ground to a finer consistency and washed with acetone (using a lab filter instead of cotton ball so no hot water wash and re-crystalization was necessary ) producing a very pale green (almost white product). The end product had a salty taste and a ph of 7-8.

The guy has a pretty good lab technique but was kind of surprised by the yield from the 100-gram extract. He was expecting a yield of around 1 gram (i.e., 2 doses) from the 100 grams of PT powder but got 7.3 grams!

Is this a typical yield?
