That is, if it takes 100 units of sugar to saturate a solution, would 50 units of protein and 50 units of sugar produce the same or a closely similar result? Or can it hold 100 units of sugar and 100 units of protein before crystalization of either substance? |
It is possible and called supersaturation. Especially organic substances tend to build supersaturated solutions. This can happen while trying to get a purified substance via recrystalization. (to get "Pure Crystals" ) There are less seed crystals in supersaturated solutions than in normal solutions.
No seed - No crystal. One of many possible reasons to fail!
