Lately swim has been straying from the pf tek and working with corn kernals for spawn and Grass clippings from the yard, and compost.
He uses lime and bleach when pastuerizing for about 2 hours,After that he drains for the rest of the night.. Spawns at a ratio of 2 pints per aluminum tin.. He leaves the spawned substrate covered with aluminum foil for a few days till he see's good regrowth.
He then Cases with Verm, and lime mix.. Helps keep the contams out.. He has them sitting in a Large filter patch bag with an opened end so it always gets fresh air.. the mushies love it.. Then one of his casings started to dry out while pinning was accuring. So he thought of the tek where you drill a hole in the middle of a cake and feed water there..
So he took a Pencil and started poking holes throughout the casing about half way throgh.
Now he can avoid misting mushrooms and water in the holes.. so far he is on his 2nd flush, and because of the consant watering he is getting a bigger flush with bigger mushrooms than the 1st... so this seems to work for him.. he finds that he likes the Grass\clippings and compost mix, He says it does the mushrooms body good, hehe..
