I want one too. Just can't rationalize it / afford it.

It kind of ticks me off that they want people (most anyway) to switch to AT&T AND buy and unsubsidized phone. Plus, if you get out of contract early, you are stuck with fees. Companies have used subsidized phones as excuses for contract fees ("we gave you a phone, you have to keep up your contract or pay us back"). But with the iPhone, you get the same fees.

I'll probably wait until the 2nd version. When I'll be drooling for a new iPod anyway and that will help with the rationalization.
