BRF to Agar.

I have some agar now so I decided to whip up a batch and pour some dishes. The recepie I used was 10g Powdered Malt Extract,11g Agar Powder,1/2tsp dextrose,500ml distilled water and 4cc Peroxide added after sterilization just before I used it.Mix was placed in jar,lid with Airport syringe was placed on,covered with tin foil and pressure cooked at 15psi for 30 mins.I let the pressure in the cooker come down, and cool for an hour then removed jar, placed on tray, covered the whole deal with foil and started to let it cool some more before I would pour them, then I got rushed and had to pour the dishes before the agar had time to cool down properly and I ended up with a fair amount of condensation in my dishes.I placed jars of hot water on top of the stacks with hopes that it would help,it did a bit I guess.I just hope the water doesnt hurt things too much.

Did you seal your dishes with parafilm or anything after you inoculated them?

Your recipe seems like a good one, a nice medium I'm sure your spores will love. Agar work is a lot of fun.

BRF to Agar.

Yes freaky, but since I do not have Parafilm I had to substitute it with Micropore Tape. This is the first time I have used this but I have heard it works. It cost me $5.00 to wrap 25 dishes. One roll exactly. The tape does have a bit of an adhisive on it but not too much, and it was fairly easy to work with.So I will see over the next week or so if it is any good.

that's expensive wrap, I hope it works well for you.

I've used masking tape lots of times. Cling wrap on a few occasions also. Parafilm is by far the best choice though imo.

Best of luck with your agar. And if you are worried about condensation, vertically standing them on there sides helps as an old member here taught me.
