I think they're like 75 cents around my way though, maybe 50, maybe even a buck, but for some reason 75 stands out in my head... but whatever, they're good eats. |

Made chicken stock yesterday. Usually i add a lot of different herbs to it, but this time only a couple of bay leaves, some thyme leaves and a spoonful of whole black peppercorns. While that was bubbling away, i thinly sliced a couple of hand fulls of cinnamon cap mushrooms, a big chunk of cabbage, half an onion, several large cloves of garlic and half a red bell pepper. Cooked the onion in a bit of olive oil over med heat until they were nice and soft, then added the cabbage. After that turned a bit translucent, added the mushrooms, garlic and then the bell peppers-- cooking a bit before adding each one. Lastly added a small handful of diced baked ham leftover from the holidays. Damn, that shit keeps forever. Seasoned appropriately with sea salt and plenty of freshly ground black pepper. Over this i ladled the chicken stock. Added a couple of handfuls of wild/brown rice mixture, brought it up to a boil and then lowered the heat to a simmer for 20 minutes. Before serving, i added a healthy squeeze of lime juice. The lime juice is sublime! It really brings out the umami flavor of the mushrooms. NOM NOM NOM NOM
