So here are the pictures from our summer farming. The farm was 18 acres of fields, on the farmers property and on leased land. Also on the property was an orchard. Here is our luxurious home. With the help of our farmer friend we sunk the posts (tree trunks) and built a deck on top. A generous Mainer gave us his old tent. It was about 9' x 11' and came with a wood stove. A good thing, too. One night it got down to 42 degrees. This was in July. ![]() This was the outhouse. If you look closely, you can see the five-gallon bucket with a toilet seat on top. Behind the photographer was the compost pile where we emptied the bucket. ![]() ![]() Here was our shower. On the ground is a hibachi grill for heating water. ![]() OK. On to the veggies. After the time was past for harvesting green garlic, we pulled what was left in the field. It filled every bit of this truck except for the driver's seat. Also pictured is an anonymous farm hand. ![]() ![]() Here are some lovely farm hands putting transplants into the ground. All transplanting was done by hand. The empty field pictured was eventually hand-planted. A big job! ![]() While digging for potatoes, we found a small dog: ![]() Pod tea, camp style: ![]() It was an intense summer. The rain was relentless, and we lived in absolute poverty for much of the time. I would totally do it all again. |

Hey Sidestreet thanks for sharing the pictures man to be honest i've been looking forward to them all summer lol the suspense was killing me! Very cool experience bro, did you see the movie Wall-E yet? Farming is the future in that flick. Glad you had a good time this summer. Thanks again.

Never saw wall-e mart, but it just made my list ![]() I suppose I can give you that. If it weren't for debtor stickup men we wouldn't have even felt the lack of cash. There was food all around us, we didn't pay rent, and were surrounded by people willing to lend a hand. We were rich in a lot of ways. We just made poor decisions when we were younger than now and they're following us like vultures. It's hard to shake that off. Hard not to fall into the debt trap. So many institutions exist just to spring that trap on the unsuspecting/unaware. If we didn't have to deal with that stuff, this summer would have been a lot easier on us. Fuck it though. Feed the vultures and never look back. |

Good pics, Sidestreet. It looks liike it was a nice setup, all 'round. Especially that comfy platform under the tent!. It's great to have experiences like that, living close to the land. Even if, this summer, Maine was the Rainy Day State! Maybe if you come back next year it'll be nicer.

Wow I didn't know I'd get that kind of response from digging this thread up. Thanks everyone. MLB - That dog is a trip! Rambunxious little guy. We would be digging or hoeing and he would just try to bite our tools (the ones we were digging with). Bugs and Madness- It was super rainy and we were miserable many times but I don't ever regret being there. We were in mid-Maine, about two hours up from Portland (or "Northern Mass," lol). |
