Fall Cool Weather Vegetable Gardening

Thought I'd share my buddy's Fall garden. He grew alot of corn and tomatoes for the summer, which now none are left. Now for the past month I think, he has been growing cabbage, broccoli, kale greens, onions, peas, and peanuts. The cold snap we have been experiencing lately around here has really made the cabbage head up. His broccoli is now making heads too. He has been harvesting the kale every week for the past couple weeks. The summers are so hot here that growing lettuce/cabbage in the summer makes it shoot out a long seed stem instead of a head.
these are just a few pics of broccoli, bell peppers, onions and cabbage...

thx for the move TB, definitely should be in animal farm

He said it's italian broccoli, regular green kind. He said it's seed that he has had for a while. I don't think he really knows. He has a freezer full of old seeds, some of the packaging looked like it was from the 60's lol. But anyway, I should get a pic of the kale greens, it looks like a sea of green. very nice. And it's cool how he can harvest it every week and it keeps growing back, all this stuff is loaded with vitamins and minerals. Good stuff.

Ya no frost yet, plenty of rain though. The low tonight is supposed to be 41° and Fri the low is 63° lol It's been up and down for sure though recently. The farmers almanac has our region average first fall frost on Nov. 9 and our average last spring frost date is April 11. We're in zone 7.

Was over at his house yesterday and snapped a few pics. He has already got some broccoli off and harvests the kale greens every week too. I think he will be picking the cabbage pretty soon. Pic 4 is all the greens and peanuts are behind them.

To show how big the broccoli head is:

Peanuts here:

My friend who owns the garden did the following photography. not bad for him, as he's no photographer. It has been mid 60's during the day last couple days with rain. I could'nt believe we saw a few (two different) bees indulging on the basil flowers. One bee acted intoxicated or about to die. Moved really slow and akward up the basil flower shoot. Found some unknown orange mushrooms growing out of wood for a photo shot.

Thx man. Yep southern states indeed! The lows are supposed to get pretty cold next couple of weeks in Nov (possible frost). All the stuff pictured was planted a couple months ago after they harvested their summer crop (tomatoes, corn, peppers, etc.), so they chose to plant cold hardy plants like peas, broccoli, cabbage, greens, etc. to harvest before winter. Wish I had room for a garden like my friend but its alot of work too. They rely heavily on the food they can produce, as I just mess with my little smal scale garden plot at home for the fun of it and get some fresh food every once in a while when I can.

here's some peanuts that were pulled up, but he said they weren't ready yet. He also said alot of his crop like the cabbage will survive a frost but not a freeze, except the basil, peppers and other stuff.
