"What is Mycotopia?"

Mycotopia is a worldwide community of people interested in discussing
entheogenic experiences and how to obtain them.


"Is this a forum to discuss illegal substances?"

We recognize that laws vary from place to place, what is illegal
in your town may be legal in mine, so we are open to discussing virtually any relevant non-commercial topic
regardless of its' legality in any given locality.
The one exception is dealing, we don't tolerate any discussion of commercial transactions of illegal drugs,
whether it be prices or quantities, whatever.


"What kind of people join a place like Mycotopia?"

People of all kinds are welcome without distinction.


"Do I have to be over 21 to join?"

Yes, although we do not attempt to verify age, we do require that all members be
of age in their local community, obviously under-age or immature people will be ejected.


"How Do I join?"

Instant registration is available by clicking the 'Edit Profile'
button located on the sidebar menu.

"I've registered a handle for Mycotopia, what now?"

click 'Edit Profile' again to log in and begin posting.


"How must I conduct myself in the forums?"

We require a civil polite mature respectful attitude from all posters.


"I need to speak to a moderator, do you know who they are?"

Click 'Forum Leaders' on the page bottom center menu to see a list of all active moderators here.

You never know, we discuss everything from how to grow various
species of mushrooms and cactus to music, religion and politics.


"Is this going to cost me anything?"

No, membership is free. Mycotopia is a non-commercial not-for-profit
organization relying entirely on voluntary donations from interested parties.


"I've seen other sites like yours, Seen one, you've seen them all, right?"

We like to think Mycotopia has its' own unique flavor, but all are
encouraged to explore other sites and compare.


"Can I pick an rude/offensive/obscene handle?"

You may not. Please take your time when choosing a handle and pick
one that is in fairly good taste and fits you well.
Racist handles, derogatory handles and handles containing foul language
may be deactivated without warning at the discretion of the moderators.
You may pick something crazy or something serious, but offensive
handles are not welcome here.


"What happens if I decide to start trouble?"

Mycotopia is a PEACEFUL online community of like-minded individuals
who come together to share friendship, information, experiences
and ideas. If you decide to challenge the peaceful nature of the forums
you will quickly find the moderators are unsympathetic to your cause.

There is Zero tolerance for Poor conduct in the forums.

Moderators Have the authority and the ability to:

* Warn you if your posting is not appropriate.
* Delete your post(s) if the content is deemed derogatory, obscene, or of no positive value.
* Ban you temporarily from Mycotopia.
* Ban you permanently from Mycotopia.

People do make mistakes, and the Moderators here understand that completely.
We just ask that you think before you post.
The Moderators are here to serve you, to protect the integrity
of the site, and to ensure Mycotopia is a place where we are free
to learn what we desire without aggression, intimidation
or unwarranted negativity.

Respect others, and they will respect you in turn.


"Some jerk is Calling me names, I'm pissed and wanna rumble!"

Don't do it. If some wise-ass starts trouble with you, report the
thread to a moderator a.s.a.p. Just because he started something
with you does NOT mean that you should finish it. The moderators will
not take your side simply because you felt provoked and defended yourself.

Keep this in mind: If you take matters into your own hands and decide to
retaliate by posting negative material, you are further disrespecting the
integrity and sanctity of the the board. Now, instead of just one jerk
posting garbage, there are two. So Please, don't fly off the hook when
provoked by a bully because you think your cause is just.
At the time, it may seem that you are hurting no-one, but any post
that compromises the Peaceful nature of Mycotopia hurts us all.

Please think before you post, no matter what the situation.

"Is cursing, profanity or obscene language acceptable ?"
We prefer that folks restrain themselves from excessive unwarranted use of profanity. We reserve the right to edit posts we feel fail to meet this guideline. The occasional 'hell' or 'damn' or even 'fuck' is ok in appropriate situations, but don't make it a habit every other word or two.


"This guy just posted naked pix, how do I contact a Moderator?"

The moderators usually patrol Mycotopia very regularly and quite
thoroughly. They will find and deal with offensive threads quickly and
quietly shortly after they are posted. But if you find that someone
posted something particularly offensive, that should be removed
with haste, simply start a new conversation on the forum and mention
that you need the assistance of a Moderator in the subject line..


"Can I post Pictures of my sweet 69 Pinto in the Fungi forum?"

Sure you can, if you have already grown mushrooms on the dash and
want to explain how you did it. Really though, the fungi forum exists
to discuss cultivation and cultivation ONLY. There are other
forums if you want to show off pix, or talk about a concert you're
going to next week. The cultivation forum is for just that, cultivation.
The moderators might move off-topic threads to the GENERAL forum
if they feel that you are posting out of context, but they shouldn't have to.

If there is any question about which forum your post belongs in, you
will be safe posing to the general forum every time...


"I'm a funny guy, I love to post silly stuff in the fungi forum!"

Everyone here appreciates humor, but the fungi forum is the
most important collection of threads on the site. Mycotopia fills her
archives from the most informative threads posted there. People
with little time and many questions need to breeze in and out of the
site, and wasting their time with off-topic humor is not funny.
Feel free to post your funniest thoughts in the general section
as long as you observe good taste.


"Gender and Obscene and Racist jokes are my favorites, Do you like them to?"

Good for you, keep them to yourself as they are not tolerated here.
Anything posted in bad taste will be extremely unappreciated and
handled as such. Be nice around here, and you will gain love and respect
much quicker than you can say " I'm sorry... "


"I wanna grow ten pounds, tell me how so I can start dealing!"

No Way. Just because it is possible for you to learn to cultivate here doesn't mean we will conspire with you.
Dealing is illegal from where most of us live.
A felony for those of you who are new to this and haven't yet done your research.
Any talk of this activity will be censored/removed.
Just to be completely clear, DO NOT discuss your selling or your intent to sell on Mycotopia.
WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW.
There is plenty to chat about without bringing that particular
subject up.


"Can I score drugs from Mycotopia?"

Again, No way. I really can't put it any clearer than that. If we see you posting
up messages about buying/selling controlled substances you can expect
to have your post(s) deleted as well as a not so nice visit from an unhappy
Moderator. We are NOT in the business of provided a forum to deal or purchase
drugs. 'Nuff said.

A Brief History Of Mycotopia

I believe it was February 2001 that hippie started yage.mycotopia.net
If not Feb then within a month or so of it. I first found the site in march or april 2001 i think. There were only 100 or so members when I came along. I read hippie's invitro tek at the shroomery and emailed him a couple of questions and he directed me here for answers.

As for that thread, I couldn't find it either. But the short story is:

Hippie created mycotopia
mycotopia became popular
too popular...
his host froze his account for excessive bandwidth usage
Hippie got mad and crippled his computer
In Hippie's absence I recreated the board on a host account I once used for testing the board software.
Through donations and with Kaijan's help we got a better host and most of the look you see today.
Hippie returned and I returned the helm to him.
The rest you've probably witnessed.

The Story Of Hippie3 is not something you'll get a straight, unbiased
answer for around here, or the Shroomery.
Why ?
Hippie never took the time to kiss the proper asses.
Hippie was coarse, and quite rude at times, and loved to duel verbally
with any one who cared to engage.
Hippie began his online existence by posting to alt.drugs.mushrooms,
where he was quickly informed of 2 ways to grow-- the pf cake tek and
ryche hawk's casing tek.
He observed quietly for awhile, soaking up all he could learn and
proceeded to embark upon his own quest for the magic.
Being a cautious sort, Hippie tried both teks at once, using spores from
pf and also trying a new upstart vendor called 'Foggy Mountain Farms',
endorsed by ryche and the shroomery crowd.
Hippie's cakes grew and prospered, and half were cased. It soon became
clear to Hippie, did i mention he was lazy ?, that casings were more
fussy, requiring more attention than he was prepared to devote.
So he became a cake fan, as well as grateful to PF for helping him in
his quest.
Around this time, a great controversy ensued between the new upstart
company which ryche backed and PF.
Many evil and untrue rumors about PF were posted daily by many names,
sock puppets, if you will. Exactly who pulled their strings was never
proved but they benefited ryche and damaged PF.
So Hippie saw these things, and he could not stand idle, because he knew
that they were lies.
So Hippie spoke up, and an ever greater controversy erupted.
ADM was rocked to its' core.
Ythan, the founder of the Shroomery and ADM, even revoked the charter so
to silence Hippie, for Hippie launched one blistering counter-offensive
after another, documenting the liars and their intentions.
A few even joined in with Hippie.
The first, and most conspicuous, was Karl Brooks. With a hue and cry,
Karl charged into the fray and the tide was turned.
The forces that backed ryche retreated to the Shroomery to lick their
wounds, while PF and Karl and Hippie and a few others like Relic and Ben
Dover and Major Mushrooms and Bubbafunk[now MohandasFatsac] were left
with ADM.
Time passed peacefully awhile, then one day Ben Dover set up a gag site
to mock Captain Max, which we now know as DroolDonkey.
Hippie said to Ben that it would be great to have a UBB like the
Shroomery but free of the commercial taint.
And Ben was good to his word, soon the Donkey was born, now nearing its'
one year anniversary.
At first, there were only a few here, and Ben said to Hippie that he
would make Hippie co-administrator.
And he did, for a few minutes.
Hippie saw that Ben had been good to his word. But when he returned
later, he noticed that Ben had reneged. The seed that later grew into
open hatred of Hippie had ben planted.
There could be only one.
But Ben offered an olive branch-- he would make Hippie the first, and
only for a while, GateKeeper.
So Hippie went along, and threw himself into the work of building a new
site.
Hippie copied all the good stuff he could find on the web and brought it
here. Much still resides in the Archives.
Hippie was relentless, posting links to DroolDonkey anywhere he could,
all over the web, every day.
And slowly people began to come to the Donkey, and she grew fat.
But among those who came were many of Hippie's old enemies.
And they began to speak against Hippie, crying out that he was rude and
abrasive and tyrannical.
And the seed in Ben's mind, the seed of hatred, began to sprout.
But Hippie was still popular, and his personality drew people and kept
things lively so Ben boded his time.
And the seed grew.
And Hippie began to notice little things, coincidences, that made him
begin to suspect that all was not quite right at the Donkey. The number
of registered posters kept climbing ever upward, but these people were
seldom if ever seen.
And Hippie noticed that Karl Brooks alone seemed above reproof. He
always won, no matter. Several GateKeepers lost their jobs by trying to
keep Karl in line.
Then one day, Karl in his smug superiority taunted Hippie, and Hippie
realized the terrible truth-- that a great puppet master was at home in
the donkey. It was his home, because Ben and Karl and quite a few others
were all one.
Hippie knew then that he was screwed, he had fought the wrong guy.
But there was unfinished business.
A raffle was in progress, to help DocCharlie, and Hippie was intricately
involved, holding several prizes to be awarded later.
But Hippie wanted out, so he tried to send back the prizes but several
pleaded with Hippie not to quit just yet.
Amanita came forward, and offered to help.
Things looked good for a bit, but it all came unraveled as the showdown
between Hippie and Dover/Brooks climaxed.
Dover deleted a thread posted by Hippie, in which Hippie had asked that
the raffle be ended.
In those days, Amanita was a friend to Hippie, and when she saw the
struggle, she wiped out many many threads, and was banished. [she
immediately returned as 'Dawg' but that's another story.]
In short order, Amanita announced that she had held the raffle drawing on
her own and posted a list of winners.
Several were for prizes that were held by Hippie.
But Hippie saw that Amanita had awarded herself and her puppet Dawg the
lion's share.
And Hippie balked, and did not send Amanita the prizes she claimed for
herself.
But Hippie did try to send the rest, some people declined their prizes,
some donations Hippie paid for out of his pocket, and then Hippie left,
thinking he had put the insanity behind him.
But Brooks/Dover was furious over his deleted threads and his
humiliation.
So he took over Hippie's password, and began to impersonate Hippie, and
said many foul and incriminating things to frame Hippie.
Then one day Hippie looked in and saw what Ben Brooks was doing, and
Hippie went to the Shroomery and he posted the truth.
And he came back to try to settle any real complaints, using his only
alternate nick, GOD. And Hippie found there were 2 who had real
complaints so he mailed the salvia donated by Jack to Amanita.
and Sidshroom still refused his prize.
So Hippie left again, this time for good, except to pop in from time to
time.
And Karl was still not content. He continued to bang the drums of
hatred, spewing every sort of vicious lie to malign Hippie, who never
really was a very likable guy.
So the people turned against Hippie, some hating without even knowing
why, just because everyone else hates.
And just today, the Shroomery has joined with DroolDonkey in banning
Hippie3,
sending him back to ADM where he began.
Hippie is now underground,
not welcome anywhere.

i started mycotopia1 a few days after posting that.
the folks from drooldonkey were rendered homeless a few months later when ben suddenly pulled the plug, and many eventually settled into a new site now called theforestfloor, where hippie is still banned to this very day. the shroomery relented and lifted its' ban.
as vitti said, we started at yage.net, quickly outgrew it, got shut down by yage.net due to excessive bandwidth use, i trashed my 'puter in a rage and was off-line several months so vitti and kaijan and others re-built mycotopia at a new server, which we also out-grew and were forced to move here several months ago.
