well they like shaded areas. i keep mine at the base of a small tree so it get a little light mostly shade. they love it. i never water because it rains enough around here. i havent fed it at all yet as the need almost no food. when i first got it it produced seed pods. i harvested about 500-600 seeds off of this one. now i have hundreds of babies plus some good trades. anyone have any idea how old this cactus is? i was guessing it was born around the same time i was roughly 30 years ago. this cactus was collected from the wild. it was saved from a development sight where it would have been just destroyed. then it fell into my loving hands. if going to graft a bunch of babies and maybe in 2 years i may get to bioassy it.

(i count 5 rows on yours). mine had a flower once so if i get it to better health than maybe i will get seed pods someday. anyway mine looks sickly compared to yours. it is much lighter green. maybe i am giving it too much light. Pics i have seen in the wild are always in a shaded area. Also this should be a very strong narcodic if you bioessay, but i want mine to flourish like yours. Thanks for the response and beautiful collection! | |

i see a black spot were your flower is. mine had about 6 of those keep a eye on it. occasionally poking it to see if a hard round object appears underneath it. thats were your seeds will be. if it on had one flower im not sure if they can self pollinate. but keep a eye under that shrivled flower. i wonder if my seeds are a hybrid or if it was pollinated by itself or maybe another ariocarpus. i guess only time will tell.
