Well, this is my first winter with cactus like this and I didn't kill it but I could've done better with it.
The thing seem to stretch do to leaving it in the kitchen near a window. So cool air and light equaled this....I tried putting it in a closet but the damage was done. About ten days ago I made this cut and today I laid the top in the soil of the original pot. I hope it will root and grow some pups but who knows.
If it does grow a pup or two that would be awesome and make me feel a bit better.(no wasted cactus)

Does anyone know how long it will take to show signs of life if it does decide to live and make a pup?

p.s Thanks Rocketman for the help with this cut. I was very nervous to cut this cactus and with your help I seemed to get through it ok

Well its been seven weeks and this beauty is got, not one, but
two pups coming out on opposite sides at the top....
How cool is that?
Also the little guy(original pup) looks like he has at least a full
inch of new growth already this year(7 weeks since coming out of
its dormant state)

Have Ya'll been using any type of fertilizer?

Mostly cactus supplement 2-2-2, and some shit tea diluted a couple times...Once i gave it some tomato food diluted down quite a bit.
MOSTLY just water and water/2-2-2 mix tho

I was thinking about your etiolated tip that you whacked off to get the new pups. Did it make it? I cut one off and stuck it directly in the soil and the lil fucker made it.....very hardy species..they want to live, and are very good at staying alive.

Ok time for an update. It seems that the cactus got a bit too wet at one point this summer and began what we thought to be rot. So it was placed in direct sunlight, no watering was done giving it a chance to dry out. It has some scars but ahh... it adds character.
Also, It has decided to pup yet again!

And here is a pic of the other pups. Man have they really grown this summer.
