no, seems to be on the outside of the cactus skin, a little crackly if i gently squeeze... looks like fert burn almost??! i don't think i gave it fert water but i might have accidently at one time?
i'll start spraying with neem when i get home tonight, unless i hear other thoughts...
maybe an emergency transplant if it get's any worse...?

What sort of fertilizer did you give it? What is your lighting set up, and has it changed recently.

My first guess would be overwatering, as that seems to be the most common form of peyote abuse, and that soil looks "damply dark" to me.

How often do you water? I find my (tiny) peyote is about right with bi-monthly watering (in the UK, moderate temps & humidity)

Thats why I asked what his light set up is. If he has HIDs then he could water as often as once a week, as long as the soil is totally dry. If he has it in the window or under flouros for the winter then watering at all could be a bad thing during the dormant period.

Under a 400MH, I used to water him once a week, sometimes go a couple weeks before watering. I haven't watered him at all in the last few weeks since I started seeing a color change. I think I'll start spraying neem on him for awhile and see what that does, maybe drastic measures would be to repot... (I checked the soil just a second ago, it's pretty hard and dry, some of what you see is lava rock.)

don't look good, bro. i would send the pic to julie at divine cactus or annie at peyote way.
repot in sterile soil and maybe reduce light, might be thirsty by now too. maybe sacrifice the worst looking pup by cutting it open and seeing what's inside could give you more info. good luck man.

Doesn't look like Sunburn...


Get it out,clean the roots very good and repot in new soil .
Water only ones and let it be for a month or so,with normal lighting.
Maybe spray the outside too,with some kind anti bacterial/fungus spray...

That 's what I think you have to try..can't hurt the Peyote !

yellowing in other plants is an iron deficiency. to high of ph will stop plants from absorbing iron.

Looks like fungus of some type. The second photo looks like a fungus commonly referred to as rust. I've had a continuing problem with this recently too. It seemed to appear around the same time I noticed spider mites on some of my cactus. These are almost microscopic so you might need a magnifying glass to check.
Neem will get rid of the mites, but you will need a fungicide of some kind to get rid of the rust. A woman at a local hydroponics shop said that 1 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a quart of water spritzed on cactus is effective. Try to keep this out of the soil though. Sulphur works too but should not be used in conjuction with neem.

I'm not an expert on this stuff but am passing on some helpful info I received.

If your up to it these babies can be rescued and have there growth accelerated as well. They are about the perfect size to graft onto a stock that is 6-10 inches tall. You may want to use Myrtillocactus Geometrizans to do this. First, cut the top 2 inches off the Myrtillocactus using a razor blade or very sharp knife(use a sharp knife if the cactus is too wide and the razor blade doesn't fit around it). Next slice a baby loph. in half (using a razor blade). Place the baby on top of the big fresh cut Myrt. Get a piece of soft foam and gently put tape from one side of the pot to the other over the foam and the foam on top of the baby. All that can be said here is MEDIUM level pressure! Too hard and you might bruise up the baby, too soft and the graft wont be tight enough to form a great sealed bond around the edge of the babies cut surface. Next put one more piece of tape over to form an X, thus ensuring that there is a nice bond.
There is a nice visual tutorial of how to do this at http://www.cacti.co.il/grafting.htm ,except that the ones he is grafting are tiny seedlings, but this same operation can certainly be performed with plants as big as several centimeters across.

The reason I recommend these steps sincerely is because the health of the babies is in serious risk of deteriorating to the point of no return. And you can choose to graft just two or three of the small unhealthy looking ones, without compromising the health of the larger ones. This will give you a good start to learning about grafting - a very useful tool unless you want to wait until your a grandfather to see your grandfather Peyote.

If your not interested in grafting them, they would recommend more light, a bit more light! Then you will see more fresh green growth, and the brownish stuff will encapsulate less of the plant. But the brown stuff will always be there, that is a permenant thing.
