I'm very certain its a Gymnocalycium of some sort -- there are about 70 varieties that are common ornamental cactus. I bet the flower is glued on! One of my Gymnocalycium is actually blooming right now btw, and it has a green outer lining of the flower as well as a short stem, which yours doesn't appear to have at all. You'll see these at Wal-Mart all the time...all with glued on paper flowers.

Well, my flower is closed for the time being, and these are not great pictures, but a flowering Gymnocalycium none the less. Come to think of it, in the first picture, I think that is another type of Gymnocalycium and it has about 5 tiny flower buds coming up -- woot!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm pretty sure that Peyote is NOT legal in Canada. If memory serves me, at the border Canadian customs informed FOAF that what he was trying to carry over the border into the states was a schedule III - decriminalized. As in, not legal. The difference is actually quite significant.

Canada # According to the 2001 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (which replaced the older Narcotics Control Act) mescaline is listed as a schedule III drug, while peyote is specifically exempted from Canada's Controlled Substances list. However, if peyote is prepared for ingestion (ground, made into tea, etc), it is possible that it would be treated as "mescaline" rather than as "peyote" which could make the preparation illegal. | |

FOAF was in no position unfortunately to argue the letter of the law.

well, you can buy them in a lot of store here... if you were trying to bring them back in the states, thats completely illegal, first its a live plants (you would need a certificate to be able to bring them in usa) and second, they are illegal in the states... but if you are growing them in canada, you are not comitting a crime... they have nothing against you, unless you make them ready for consumption... |
