![]() | cactus collection and loph help i've been away for a while but i missed mycotopia, before i dissapeared for a while i started my cactus collection, got a few cuttings and seeds. here's the progress. after a lot of error i can finally identify trichocereus species much easier and finally found a nice pachanoi at h0me depot this summer. as far as the loph seedlings, they've been slow, should i transplant them? what to do? are they just reaaaaally slow. anyway hope you enjoy the pics. i'm pretty sure the new growth on the bridgesii is monstrose, it doesn't look like a normal pup... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | man, nice collection! The lophs that I was growing were slow. And thats just the way they are. Just ask Spacecake, his loph grow log is FAR from over...lol But yeah they are slow. The only time I ever noticed sufficient growth was under lights for 24. But I over watered before the summer so I couldnt tell ya about the warmer outdoors. I noticed that other members has some cactus seedlings that are doing very well in MG soil/(not lophs tho). I used cactus soil and I think that it drys to quick for seedlings, but thats just me. Good luck...Beautiful cacti for sure ![]()

![]() | hihi lol ... ![]() Don't transplant the first year ! After a couple of month they will turn from tall to thick and get more shape. Next year in march ,transplant if you think it's needed, and don't use to big a pots (clay) twice the size of the cacti will do.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The best way to speed up a lophs growth is to graft to another cactus. Periskiopsis, a trichocereus, or a myrtillocactus are all fine grafting stock. I dont think you can get monstrose growth from a non mutated cactus. I mean, you wont get monstrose pups from a regular bridgesii.

![]() ![]() | WOW! Is 24 hour light acceptable for lophs? A friend has some 6 month olds that he would love to see grow to grafting size a little sooner. Is 24 hr. light ok for torches etc. also? Do you need to have them that way for only certain times of year/ lifespan? Sorry fer being a tard. I am just learning. >Yer friend, nAscAr denDriTE duDLEy |

i thought that monstrose was created when an object gets deposited in the cactus flesh and it mutates. i have never seen a bridgesii pup before so i may be wrong, cant wait to see it grow out ![]() | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Let me spare you the suspense, it is not a monstrose, although its a very nice cactus. Typically any loph the size of a pencil eraser is large enough to graft. Only graft during the growing season, never in winter dormancy.http://forums.mycotopia.net/botanica...ra-grafts.html (Lophophora Grafts)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I believe the lophs need the darkness. Re creating the light cycle of the desert they are native to would be best imo. They really dont like full sun all day, I do know that from my experience.
