![]() | torch extraction question my cat is doing an extraction of peruvian torch. he's having a problem with the cactus sludge "holding on" to the xylene. he added about a pint of xylene to the basified torch mixture and after 2 days only has recovered about a cup. the mixture has been sitting outside in temps of about 95 f. he's already thinned the mixture with dh2o. 125g of torch powder was used with 3 quarts of naoh water mix. as there's no emulsion layer he's pretty sure the ph is high enough. he's done this extraction once before with good results but doesn't remember having a problem recovering the xylene. would heating the mix in a hot water bath to say 140 f or so allow more xylene to come to the surface? i believe i've read this in another posting but was unable to find it again.

![]() ![]() | Heat in a warm water bath and you will be good to go. The longer I wait the better the seperation and amount pulled without heating.

![]() | throw the jug in a bucket, pour in some boiling or near boiling water. after it sits for a bit, remove it and look. you should see small droplets of solvent stuck to the sides of the jug. give it a few taps and they will rise to the surface. return it to the bucket. refresh the water after a while if necessary. if this does not work, add more NaOH and repeat. |
