    Salvia Emergency

I bought a salvia plant 3 weeks ago most of the leaves died. After pruning it a week ago of dead leaves new ones are starting to take their place. Only problem is that the new ones and the two old ones are now blacking on tips. Humidity at best is 60% and I frequently mist it. I even built a tent over the pot using a basting bag as well. The soil of choice was Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix. I also noticed everyday after removing bag there was fruit flies stuck inside of it. Dont know if they have any significance to the entire problem. I dont think the salvia is going to last to week 4. Please if anyone has any suggestions Im open for em. Oh and when I recieved the plant it was close to death as well so it started looking better by week 2 but not by much.

i'm pretty new to growing Sal but mine likes a dryer soil with fast drainage. the flies would lead me to believe that the soil may be too wet. humidity is important, but so is good air supply.

    just a thought, i'm by no means a pro...yet

Yah so right now Im leaving the bag off to help dry out the soil some and bring air towards the soil. I also aerated the soil buy diggin into it with a curled coat hanger and turn the soil towards the surface kinda like fluffing it.

    does look way too wet
hope that digging in soil did not damage roots,
    sure don't need that
get rid of the flies - sticky tape

If I go over 3 days without watering my salvia they collapse until they get some water. They love humidity and water. They are also better suited to a greenhouse or tropical climate, and they are very fragile plants. It is hard to keep them alive for more than a couple of years for me.

Mine are in a tropical climate and having trouble staying alive. Not sure what to do for them.

They seem to grow best in the spring and fall here, when temps are more moderate 60s-70s...Although the plants appear to be dying in mid winter and mid summer, they've come back every time so far..Temps range from 30-100F thru the year ...
I suggest avoiding any temp extremes for a young plant and providing a very well draining soil mix ..Looks like the roots maybe oxygen starved from an overly saturated soil...

Havent watered the soil in 3 weeks what youre seeing is where I misted it and took the pic right afterwards. The top of soil is just wet looking. It really is deceiving cause the soil underneath is just slightly moist not soaked or wet. Anyways Ive left it uncovered for a day now and the entire stock is now fallin towards ground and one of the top leaves the smallest is just finished. So now only leaf sprouts and the one big leaf on top left to go...

My opinion was based on the appearance of the plant ,rather than the wetness of the soil..
One way to maybe save a small plant is to transplant to a larger pot filled with plain moist Coir
without disturbing the existing root ball too much..feed just plain water...

Crap, my cat just hit the send button..had to finish in 'edit' mode ...heh....

LoL your cat does that too eh? yah ok sounds like a plan if it continues to go worse Im going to attempt a clone in the next 4 days or earlier if it looks like its almost dead maybe take a healthy sample of tissue with a leaf on it and pray cause if all leaves are dead photosynthesis cant accure anyways and then there is no point. But Ill try to give it the ICU treatment today in new soil.

I managed to revive a Kratom plant with the coir method..It allows more O2 to the root zone, kind of a semi hydro thang...
That darn cat ate all the leaves off and the subsequent new growth was weak and yellowing ..After about 3 days from moving it to the coir pot , there was more healthy green leaves forming..so far so good...Gluk w Sally...
