Still too early for poppy sowing/fall

    Hey guys,
as most of you may be in the same boat
I have a lot of seeds this year
The temps have come down a bit here and Im getting anxious for a fall crop. I know its still probably a little too early for outdoor sowing. SO Im thinking about peet pellets indoors to start them and then take the 'peet patches' outdoors when they are about 1.5-2 inches tall. I do not, however, want them started too early nor too late. Timing is more than likely crucial as poppies will just wilt and lay over dead if i start em too early indoors. They will die soon after planting outdoors if planted too early, due to the heat. Too late they will most likely die from the winter here, never the less even if they could survive the winter it would be next year and I want a fall harvest
So, do you guys think its about time to start them indoor pellets?

so with a "fall crop". When exactly would you harvest the pods? Are you starting from seed broadcast?

yeah some seed, just casted about in an area.
But also some started in peat pellets.
About 4-8 seeds or so to a pellet, maybe a wee bit more. Then after they spout and stand up a couple inches I will take those outdoors and very easy, place in some loose soil and watch em grow.
This will hopefully help with overall size of the finished pods since thinning is way to complicated and too much work imho.

yeah, just make sure they get sun all day. I feel that many of mine suffered in the spring do to lack of light in the mornings. The champs of the batch (still small compared to Arizona Selects..lol) got full sun from sunrise to sunset and were the largest. Poor babies that only got sun later in the day turned out small and or died completed just before flowering.
This may have been just coincidence or my misfortune but I do feel it was lack of enough sun.

that will depend on many factors as all plants. Mine took about a couple months in the spring, some took three to four months...those were the larger ones and the late bloomers as i called em.

Keep in mind, i had a wacko winter storm come in here and stunted the pods also. They probably would have finished sooner if it weren't for that.

    right
    poppies can take the cold,
takes a good hard freeze lasting a couple days to kill them.

For the amount of seeds i cast peat pellets would not work. I am curious to see if when you do both broadcasting and indoor peat to start if there is a difference.
