    Brugmansia

So...I bought a nice pink Brug at the beginning of the summer. It's flowered through out the summer but has yet to set a seed pod. Right now there are like 6 flowers open....what are the chances this variety is sterile and will not set fruit? I have a double purple Datura that is only a few inches tall that has flowered twice so far and has set a nice size seed pod.

Pictures to come in the morning...

    Mmm.
    Which burgmansia is it? Sanguinea?

Well, not sure if it is self polinating or not got to read up on that. I would imagine a datura could polinate the brugmansia, but i don't know.

Will you have to bring it inside for the winter or do you live sufficiently far south for it to live? I've always wanted a brug but I'm afraid I live too far north for them to make it through the winter.

I live in NE US. Yes I have to bring it in over the winter. I was told You let it loose its leaves then bring it in. put it in the cold basement for the winter without water. In the spring after last frost bring it out and water it. As for species...not sure...pretty though.

most brugmansia rarely if ever give off fruits/seeds. of the 7 main species i've read about in the encyclopedia of psychoactive plants, only 2 are listed as commonly giving of fruits. those are sanguinea and suaveolens. The first of the two is rather easy to distinguish and if yours is a solid color of pink its not sanguinea (bloodred angels trumpet). suaveolens does usually have pink flowers but still only rarely produces fruits.

its also mentioned that its hard to distinguish many brugs because of all the crosses that have come about over so many generations. so color isn't the only thing that will help identify it.

do the flowers grow straight down or at an angle.

    Brugmansia Growers International

great site, go check it out.
Probablt don't set seed. propagation is by clones 99% of the time for most.
DO NOT let it loose its leaves! that's incorrect data. It will keep it's leaves all winter inside.
Go to the above site and Learn. You will need to water, about once a month during the winter.
