![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A/B Spice Extraction
I'm doing an acid/base spice extraction. I've noticed that the older teks instruct you to bring the acidic solution down to pH 2, while others say pH 4. Does anyone know the reason for this? Was it determined that it was unnecessary to bring the pH down to 2; that pH 4 worked equally as well? Mycotopia Web Archive: DMT extraction I've also heard several people mention that mimosa hostilis root bark is sufficiently acidic in itself that you can extract the spice out of the bark using only distilled water in your acid phase. Can anyone confirm this? Sadly, the person I heard this from directly is no longer a Mycotopiate, but another 'Topiate, cheech, also mentions it in this thread: http://forums.mycotopia.net/dmt-spic...tml#post312234 (marsofold DMT tek questions [merged]) |

Yes the alkaloids will be acidic so you could get them with plain water but making the water acidic will make the process more efficient. When swim does his he doesn't measure pH, just uses one part vinegar to three parts water for all acidic extraction steps and it works a treat.

AFAIK DMT must exist in a water soluble form in MHRB because people have been doing water extractions on it for a long, long time. Are you planning on turning the spice back into freebase before evaporating? DMT HCl isn't much fun to work with. Not even Shulgin could get it to crystallize and the best I ever did was a gummy paste, it's pretty hygroscopic. |

![]() | It is worth mentioning that, contrary to popular belief, distilled water is acidic (due to ambient CO2 reacting with the water). The last time I tested distilled water (from a store bought gallon) it had a pH of ~5.5. This varies, but unless you are taking it straight from the distillation apparatus the water will not have a neutral pH (7).
