First Spice extraction, few questions.

A FOAF just started a Spice extraction tonight. The tek in use is as described here: http://forums.mycotopia.net/dmt-spic...tml#post346062 (Short, Quick, Simple Spice Tek using Quart Jars)

A FOAF just made the first pull tonight, and is waiting for the evaporation process. After reading some posts, he is curious as to maximizing yields. Would one recommend that he puts the dish in the freezer after most is evaporated naturally? Secondly, is there anything to be done with the black sludge (lye/mhrb)? Is there any spice left in this portion?

swim evaporates their glass baking dish almost 50% before swim places it in the freezer, usually gets solid results. and if you're more interested in quality, swim says not to worry about the ammonia wash, just recrystallize.

as for the sludge, try using a different non-polar solvent, either xylene, toluene, or swim even heard of using diethyl ether for capturing the jungle goods.
