![]() | Baby Lophophoras W.
Hello guys. this seeds started sowing 9 days ago (20 days) and already there are 11little guys sticking out. This is a 33% Perlite , 33% Sand (screened), 33% peat moss (screened also) mix (everything was in oven for an hour). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The lights have been on them for about 12-13 hours and they are 10 inches away from the tray. (two 14W fluorescent bulbs) My issue: There are about 3 little guys that are yellowish/ orange/ brown. I can't quite get the color right, but I posted some pictures of them. What I am wondering, and need help identifying is whether this is just normal (as the other little babies look green and healthy) or is is that I may be putting too much light on them. Or could it be the temperatures, or perhaps something else? (Temp has been at around 75 degrees to 85 degrees F) The ones I am describing as brownish/orange/yellow are rather smaller than all the other ones. If am not mistaken, this are the ones that have come out most recently. Any advice, tips, recommendations are more than welcomed. Take care all! |

Yay, babies! Where did you acquire your seeds if I may ask, Rockola? I know it will be years b/4 they are ready to harvest but I would enjoy them just watching them grow and would have a great 5yr b-day party! Keep up the thread and show us how they do! Best of Luck! |

![]() | Seeds!
Thanks for the replies guys, I have been quite exited too, and have been taking plenty of care of this babies so far. There are 16 germinated seeds (out of 20) so far!! I am kind of worried because the brownish baby still does not change color, and is actually getting rounder and rounder, but still keeping that color…. All the other ones are actually looking pretty good and green; I am actually quite surprised since I thought the light wasn’t going to be enough. I will post some more pictures soon. Take care. |

![]() | Update on baby Lophophora W.
As hydra had advised, I left this babies alone for some time under the conditions mentioned above and I assume that the light indeed was the cause of the browning, as they are now looking green and healthy (all 16 seedlings). I appreciate everyone’s advice so far, and here are some close ups of them as of today. They are getting very cute with those little hairs!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Awsome bro! Cant wait to try this. How long from actually getting and having seeds does it take to notice growth? One more thing, from what i see in your pics, how much longer before you could graft those?

Thanks guys, I am quite happy about the results so far. I am not sure as to how long it will take for these to have a nice size, but I plan on growing half of these babies because I really enjoy having them in my house, and I really like their beauty; perhaps some day in the future I’ll take a couple... I will probably consume from the ones that I end up grafting. As far as grafting, that is definitely the way to go if you plan on consuming the cactus. While I will be doing this within the next few months (to only a few selected ones from this batch), I have read that you are better grafting young seedlings (under 1 month) onto Pereskiopsis. Older ones I believe are more successful on other cactus, such as Thich. Pachanoi, and brigedsii. I have never done grafting, but I will be doing it soon, so I will let you know the progress, and I would certainly like to see your as well. Take care. |
