![]() | opium poppy with brown seeds?
Is this possible? My latest shipment of poppy pods, some of them contain seeds other than the purple/grey/black normal, mostly brown? the pods look about the same, some of them are very white as opposed to the usual light brown..........

![]() | May not be fully mature
May not be fully mature, but still good pods, the seeds may not be viable. But my pods from Arizona Select varied in color so did the seeds. I assume it is similar to most plants where the seed color and viability varies on the how mature the fruit is/was. Always around, Alex |

From what I have noticed, fresh seeds are amber to black. They obtain a blue-gray color with age. I have yet to get a pod with gray seeds in it, yet when purchasing seed it is usually gray in color.

I had one pod from a large order from an old sponsor and it didnt look different in any way, but when I opened it it was full of brown dust, maybe pollen, it was weird though not a singel seed. And then the seeds I had from that shipment looked at first glance the same color, but when in a bag, there was grey, black, brown, purplish, and almost white also. I found that the whites did not sprout for me. The blacks did but had a low germ. rate. The grey and the purplish along with the light brown sprouted with high rates. Always around, Alex |

As far as the seed color they can vary. Persian Whites for one can be light brown color and many of the Grey I've seen are Tasmanian Whites. Then black I've had were Gigantum. But many others could also have the same color. The black you had that didn't germ were probably a bad batch. The only ones you should have a problem with would be white cause that means they aren't mature. If you harvest your own just wait until the pods rattle when shaking them. Then you know they are mature, and use the biggest pods for best germ rate and best lineage for next harvest.

Then there you have raw opium. It's one of the reasons why poppy seed tea can be so dangerous. Whats good for a single dose one time might be far to much the second time since theres no telling how much powder is mixed in with the seeds.

![]() | I guess you could. I've never tried poppy seed tea but I always thought that was what made it good? Without the dust i don't see what would be active. I've heard of people failing drug tests after eating poppy seed bagels so I'd guess the good stuff would be the brown Opium dust. The people that fail drug tests test positive for opiates. But you'd just need to be careful with your consumption of it. Take it slowly and not chug down the same amount your used to drinking because the strength varies with each new batch of seeds. |
