NO, ammonia washing is the stupidest advice being passed around these last few years.

I respectfully disagree, i always do an ammonia wash on my spice as a final step, I use janitorial grade ammonia from @(E hardware, 10% ammonia i believe (jus make sure its clear ie; no soap bs). I throw the whole jug in the freezer when i know i will be needing it the next day or whenever, it wont freeze. i put my spice (preferably white and very very fine powder form, like freeze precipped) in a small glass bottle with a thin neck/mouth for accurate pouring, have the bottle of ultra cold ammonia and a bottle of really cold distilled water. i add ammonia directly to the spice in the jar, about half as much ammonia as spice (by eyeballing the volume), then add a good slosh of the distilled H2O (enough to completly submerge all the spice), seal the bottle and shake violently for 15 seconds, then remove the lid and carefully pour through a coffee filter in a funnel, add new distilled to the bottle and shake it (to dislodge any spice that remained after first pour), pour this through the filter, repeat until every bit of spice is in the filter. I always do this method as a final purity step, never noticed any significant loss in yield as long as the ammonia and H2O are bitchass cold, maybe 2%-4% loss if that. after its filtered just let it dry (takes a while cuz of H2O) and its ready to rock.

Arbol, maybe you could explain why you are not a fan of ammonia washes instead of just poo pooing it and not helping at all. just a thought.

best of luck lampo, would you mind sharing with us the current state of your spice? i find ammonia washes are a good final step but spice needs to be prettymuch 'there' by that time, meaning if your spice is still grungy and yellow you need to take steps to get it white before ammonia is really needed. ammonia wont turn yellow to white, jus white to perfect white.

In my experience an ammonia wash makes no visible difference in your spice. It will pick up and wash away most if not all trace residues left from your naptha, but thats about it. The best way to remove the yellow tint is doing a sodium carbonate wash (detailed in the vaults). That procedure turned my yellow crap into sparkly white crystal with one wash. You may also combine this with the activated carbon method for particularly dirty spice or if you dont mind a little loss for your very high purity. good luck!

Anhydrous ammonia is renowned as a solvent, but suspicious.

i always use an ammonia wash also and i wont smoke un-washed freeze precip'd spice, it tastes too bad and is too harsh imo. ammonia washing definitely cleans the dmt and makes it a LOT less smelly/bad tasting/harsh .

i just use ammonia and have never heard of this technique, but this sounds spot on. I usually just use ammonia and drip it on my spice while on a coffe filter, then let dry. whole process takes about 20 minutes tops, ammonia dries really fast. but this method sounds better than mine.

i already have sparkly white crystal when i am about to do my ammonia wash (sometimes maybe off white ). ammonia washing makes the strong smelling white dmt into a drier, almost no-smell at all , sparkly white powder. that is the difference. i'd say it takes away 90% of that rubbery dmt smell.. and the resulting smoke is much more pleasant
