distilled water vs. water out the sink for DMT extraction

SWIM is about to do 1st DMT extraction, doing straight to base, dont have destilled water though. COuld i use water out of the sink instead? Was thinking of boiling water out of the sink and using it.

boiling is not the same as distilling . boiling water will only kill the living things in the water . distilling water removes most of the impurities because they won't evaporate . then you have to collect the steam and cool it back down to liquid .

most of the impurities in tap water are dissolved metals and halides . the metals won't make much of a difference , but halides can have a small affect on the pH response . also , some tap water has water softeners or detergents . these can be a bigger problem because detergents will interfere with acid base extraction by impeding layer seperation .

really , all this depends on your location . "water" is made up of different things in different places .

bottled drinking water works fine . if you're going to go to the store and buy drinking water ($1 per gallon) , you might as well get distilled (pure) water for the same price .

Well swim went ahead and used water out of the faucet and didnt have any problems. He boiled it, saw a little bit of soap looking stuff floated to top when boiled, but didnt interfere with the extraction. Pulls are crystallizing nicely.

tap water works but in the long run dh20 works easier/better - no scum, lye dissolves easy!, even no acid needed wen boiling

The big difference between the two is seen when boiling down to concentrate any alkaloids ..The minerals begin to bind with the extract and stick to the pot as a scummy crusty mess..Really only a problem if reducing way down to an essence ime..

not to be a d#$khead,but the time you took to post the question and get an answer you could have used going to ANY store and grabbing a gallon for .79 cents. These are not hobbies where cutting corners or rushing things will help you,no matter how small the detail is. Tap water works but distilled is better. QUALITY,my friend...not quantity(or quickness).

Like I said,not trying to be a douchebag we've all been hasty before but planning ahead is the name of the game in these activities isn't it? Good Luck and enjoy.....those first crystals are always the best.The sweet plasticy taste of success! mmmmmmmm
