I'm curious, how does this work? They graft young peyote buttons onto another plant, does it make the peyote grow and mature faster? If so, that is amazing and could really help the species because people won't be raping the earth to get them irresponsibly.

Haven't performed it yet but that is how I plan to grow my Lophos once I germinate.

Ya those are grafted onto a plant called pereskiopsis... The holy grail of peyote grafting stock.. Those peyotl are at most 2.5 yrs old.. Not mine but inspiring.. With this method people dont have to dig up the precious cacti from the mother earth.. We can grow as many as we'd like.. Looks like these people have a greenhouse full of pereskiopsis stalks and just grafted away.. Probly had a few people help out to do that great haul.. Anyways... Graft away peepz!!! Soon I'll have some new pics of my caespitosa's on a bush.. I love grafting.. |

Hmm.. Are you using peres? Are the seedlings very young or have they grown for a while? The youngest are best for grafting IMO. Once they get about 1/4 inch or bigger they are herder to graft.. Also if your air is dry theyll dry up before they heal.. Try super glueing around the edges.. If the lophs are bigger than 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch san pedro can do wonders..

Ive tried with myrtillocactus unsuccesfully.. 6 died.. I think pedros will work better for ya.. I tried one on pedro and it worked.. I taped the scion down with packaging tape.. I put a small piece or paper on the tape over the scion for easy removal.. It does need to be held down not too tight but not loose.. Leave 3 days.. Then unwrap and wait.. Sometimes grafts just wont work.. It happens.. Dont let it discourage you.. Just try more.. Heres a pic of my one n only pedro graft.. So far!

"This peyote was grafted as a few days old seedling in June (that's only three months ago). It has already sprouted seven new pups!" from http://www.thenook.org/archives/tek/...sis-peyote.htm

Very nice! Apparently the grafting works well, that's a lot of growth for 3 months! Great job!

Whoever did that graft grew incredibly fast.. Peres is amazing isnt it? See how they turn red just as they begin to burst into light speed.. Looks like some of my earlier ones.. For me to reach that size its more like 6 months but in a tropical climate thats probly the norm.. Cool pic.. |

Yes! I think what your talkin about is cloning.. Its easiest with caespitosa but can be done with most if not all cacti.. You can graft one pup and let it grow until it has pups then graft those.. If you dont have a caespitosa it can be done to williamsii or others by allowing the graft to get an inch or so around and cut the top 20% off.. After a few weeks as long as there are areoles to grow from you may get up to 9 offsets.. Heres one thats been topped as we call it.. Heres some pics of the latest grafts.. They are all clones of a seed grown caespitosa.. I included a pic of an older one similar to the mother used for the peres bush.. They were inside in the shade for a while but now are under flouros.. They should plump up nicely.. ![]() I hate winter!!! |

Aeroponics are the shiznit.. Simply put.. Cuttings of the pereskiopsis are allowed to heal a couple days then thrown into a aero system.. Roots grow super fast and I've even revived shrivled almost dead grafts by putting them in aero.. After they have roots, graft and they grow very fast.. An aeroponic setup with a powerful air pump is way better and cleaner for grafting IMO. The air pump I have can bubble like 24 flasks easy.. I like to crowd em too so theres like 3 grafts in each.. Dose very lightly with fertilizer.. Change water every week or two.. Ill be setting up my aero system again soon so Ill get a pic tutorial up or somethin,.. |

Hey. Thanks I use artificial light. 4 x 4' flouro's (2 x cool white and 2 x grolux tubes spaced about 6-8" apart). The lights sit about 1-2" off the tops of the plants. Those pots are perfect from peres grafts, you can cram about 40 to a regular grow tray

Excellent... Same setup as mine almost.. Ive been using 4 x 3 footers all are cool white.. I have a couple that have a red/orange hue for flowering but never used those ones.. Those are some beautiful grafts.. Keep up the good work..!

nun-i have heard that grafted peyotl will develop in size at a greater rate than a non-grafted but maybe not necessarily so in potency. in your experience do you find any truth to this?
