![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | High Density Polyethylene is your friend... glass, (at least in this case) is not. I'm not saying that the spaghetti jar won't work; it's just that with using glass, there is a problem of the glass etching and then breaking. If you really have to use glass make sure it's borosillicate glass (read: lab glass) as that can stand up to more abuse than regular sillica glass (your spaghetti jar.) Please be safe.

It should be fine but keep it in a bucket just in case it bust. What kind of lid does it have.Any rubber or plastic inside there isn't a good thing. If this is the case cut some squares out of a regular grocery bag and wash. Then place those over the opening and screw the lid on top of those.Grocery bags are HDPE

really jus put grocery bags under the cap, i have a leaking lid on some old wine bottles. usually just use a rag over the lid maybe il try the plastic. i definatly have a problem with xylene pulls stored in jars with the rubber seal lid. thats seal melts.

Bucket, now thats a great idea! The lid isn't leaking so far, I just did the first pull and waiting to see what happens. The spaghetti lid does have a little rubber ring at the top but again it is not leaking yet. I was wondering if the solvent eats that ring up will that be in my final product? I'll look for some grocery bags in the house tomorrow or go out and get me some tomorrow. The booze bottle is a good idea too, it would make it much easier to suck out the solvent.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My first few extractions I used loochy's tek as he wrote it with the mason jars and I never noticed any corrosion of the rings or byproducts in the spice. However after thought I came to the conclusion that I don't trust ingesting something soley on it's appearance. So it's just personal preference and ease of mind that I only use glass and HDPE throughout the entire process. If you decide to leave it as is though do a freeze percip instead of a full evaporation to help reduce any impurities.I would then follow that up with a simple wash

Just for you information: Foaf has had a Lye solution sitting in Mason jars for over 2 months with no signs of trouble. I know that's lazy, but I'm just pointing out that there are 5 of these jars not breaking after prolonged exposure to the NaOH solution. Has anyone here actually had a jar break due to this process? It probably shouldn't count if you use that glass for pressure cooking also, as they do seem to weaken after uses in the PC.
