help with cactus ID?

hello everybody, new to this forum and hoping you guys could help me out a bit. I recently aqquirred this little guy from a neighbor of mine and was wondering if anyone could help confirm that its a san pedro.

Yes it looks very much like a trichocereus pachanoi.

I live in AZ so obviously it's really dry here. I purchased a san pedro from a garden store even though I see what I think are san pedro growing everywhere. The problem is the cactus used in landscaping looks like a dehydrated version. Everything else about them are the same as the one I bought except between the ridges are so deep. They look thirsty. I have also read that it's best to use a cactus which hasnt had a drink in awhile. I don't know.

Thats true, when the cati is under stress it produces more mesc. its a defence.. its best to stop watering for a while before harvesting you cati..

and less water also means less plant material to eat, since cacti contain a lot of water

thanks for the information guys. Was also wondering if the harvest/drying process would affect the mesc. content of the whole limb? Swim was planing on taking a middle part limb for extraction purposes while i plant the bottom and upper sections for future fun. i guess what im wondering is if i wait for the bottom to root, then take the extraction section and top parts off, is too much active content leaving the plant?

I would take 4 in. or so off the top and root it.. and make tea with the rest.... How long is it?

its about 22 inches long maybe 2 and a half to 3" around, was planing on doing alco extract on about a foot of it, this will be first experince so i'd like to make sure i reach threshold but i dont wanna go for broke you know?

that will work to... but 12 to 18 in. in tea you will get off good on the other hand it tastes like hell so alco extract might be a good idea.. What ever you decide have fun dont forget to wear your seat belt!!! It can be a long ride
