Non-mimosa extraction - advice please

Hi. SWIM has been researching this topic for some time now but he seems to only find teks regarding extraction from mimosa hostilis. SWIM is from Australia so he plans on using Lye-Mechanix caustic soda and Digger's brand Shellite (I've actually been meaning to test this out as firetwirling fuel, heard good things about it) and of course just a few scraps of bark off SWIM's local wattle/acacia trees.

This is where SWIM's lack of knowledge becomes apparent. SWIM plans to do a couple of extractions to get his technique down using mimosa hostilis root bark acquired from a nursery, and then use the bark from a few wattle trees around the place, using lysergic's STB/Norman tek as mentioned by watchamacallit here. (DMT extraction, tap or distilled water? ..troubles raising ph above 12) Now SWIM has almost zero botanical knowledge, so I guess his most pressing question is "will I poison myself by doing this?" followed closely by "will this tek work for extracting spice from any given wattle tree?".

SWIM thanks you very much for your help.

For extracting acacia species, an a/b may be the better route.. From SWIM's past discussions with an aussie, who was very well versed in extractions from acacia, he recommended doing a few defats with xylene or toluene, then one with naphtha, just after the acid soak phase of an acid/base extraction. Apparently, the defats are necessary for a somewhat clean extraction from acacia species, due to the excessive fats and waxes in the acacia..

Ok great. Are there any a/b teks you would recommend for a first time extraction? I'll have a look around myself too. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure of the details, but I'm pretty sure acacia extracts are much more pH sensitive.

I'll mention that to him, I think he's working on a revised draft right now.
Though I've never tried this with acacia, it works like a charm on chaliponga, which also tends to be oily.

Also, if you substitute HCl or H2SO4 (or any strong acid) for acetic acid, you'll get better yields. A little more dangerous to work with, but not worse than NaOH.

Ahh all of this is excellent information. Thanks for the links, too!

Hopefully I'll be attempting my first mimosa STB extraction within a couple of weeks, and then an acacia A/B shortly thereafter

I suggest you do an A/B on the mimosa, too. Get started learning the technique with an easier starting material.
