for trichocereus 3-5 years from seed for a single plant, but it depends on the growing conditions.

I was thinking i want a bridgesii or the bridgesii var montrose. BBB is out of var monstrose however. When you harvest the cacti does it kill it or do you just take a cutting of it and leave the rest of the plant growing in the pot? I would hate to have to kill it after letting it grow for years.

Its the growers/buyers choice. You can use the whole thing once, or leave 5-6" and have it grow pups and increase in size very quickly during the next growing season. You can buy 4 foot long cuttings and make 8 6" cuttings. The next grow season you will have pups that can be cut and rooted, so it can increase exponenitially according to how well you care for them.

I advocate finding clones that you like and growing them out. Youll never be at the mercy of the govt. if they outlaw them, or make it tougher to get them. Self sufficient is always the best way to go.

well i'm relatively new to cacti and i wanted to try my hand in growing them from seed. maybe ill order a seed pack and a cutting and plant the cutting as well. On a clone would i just look for the ones with the best genetics and then clone them, btw these will probably be grown indoors initially. Thanks.

Thats how Ive done it. I buy a cutting and a couple seed packs. I always take the top off the cutting and let it callus or make tea. In the mean time I get some baby's going in sand.
