I would not wash off the roots. Put them into well draining potting soil with organic material and enough perlite or other material to make it drain well. They like a slightly alkaline ph. Not too much sun to start, let them get used to it first. Then sun part of the day but not all day. If you see brown or red on them that's sunburn. They can do fine in a window. Happy growing!

I'm no expert either so if Irish Lion could give his opinion I think that would clear this issue.

I hadn't really thought about that. You take care of both the same way. I have quite a bit of each in my garden. I lost track of how many. I will say they look a little like the baby bridgessis I had. You will find as they get older the spine length shows up. Bridgessi has spines that could kill a dog. Pedro has some pretty good spikes too but the bridgessis are kind of long and black. Though the black will fade after a while in the sun. Either one is very good.

In a bought cactus mix soil I think they will do just well! Water only once at first(to recover from transplant shock)and don't give too much sun. Slowly give them more sun over time, then water them only when the soil is completely dry. They'll love you for it!(And eventually you'll love them)

um well i would say that they are pachanoi it's hard to tell because there so small (never started from seed before but just ordered 100 bridgessi yesterday ) but i think they have to many ribs to be bridgessi. some pachanois do get longer spines but i think it will even out as they get bigger. I like to use cactus mix this one in paticulat lol and mix sand into it for better drainage. sand might defenantly be a good idea when there so small IMOP, easier for the roots to make there way. what ever you do good luck give them much love and love you shall recieve. |

Hi Star those are some cute little buggers you have there. Yeah I think the mix you have them in right now is fine for the moment. When they do get bigger look for a product called truface. Its a great medium for cactus and they love it. Make sure they have great soil drainage and you should be fine for the time being. Good luck and welcome to being a daddy to some fine sons or daughters is you will.
