![]() ![]() | Drying Cactus Question
Think I could cut it up into about 1/2 inch thick slices, then just leave it in my food dehydrator on like 175 or something for a couple hours? anyone have experience with this.. every tek Ive read involves using the oven.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Food dessicators are the way to go. SWIM uses one. They are more gentle to your cacti and don't require the vigilance of an oven.

I have just left it out to dry before... watch out for mold though.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Core It
I cut my cacti into 4 inch sections then trim off the material around the core with a sharp knife. The core contains very little mescaline and is a bitch to grind up because it contains tough fibrous material. I cut the pieces into 1 inch pieces and dry on a large table made of aluminum screen. Depending on the humidity in your area this will dehydrate the skins after about 2 weeks. I finish the process in the oven at 160 degrees for 3 or 4 hours. I store these in air tight 1/2 gallon canning jars with a sock of Drierite on top. This will further remove any moisture and keep for ever. |
