Good Cacti Cutting Method

Swim's new to cacti (but very interested) and just ordered seeds, and a 3 foot rooted specimen to grow. What he's really curious about though is how he is going to skin the two 12 in. specimens he ordered to get the goods out without losing any. I got a good general idea of what to do, but any advice on special techniques would be highly appreciated as i really do not want to screw it up.

Hey there and welcome!! Glad you got some cactus. You might want to plant some of that cutting for propagating your own. Cacti from seed take forever

Have a look through the vaults. There are lots of teks for cacti in there.

personally i never skin my cacti, dont see any need in doing so, I just cut into slices then remove the core. and go to work from there. what specimen did you order? and what are you trying to go about, tea?, tar?, a/b?

well i'm glad your into cacti, i'm sure it won't let you down.

Swim ordered a 2-3 foot trichocereus pachnoi rooted specimen of which Swim is going to grow and Swim also has ordered two Trichocereus Bridgesii Cuttings that Swim wants to munch, and The Bridgesii seeds also for growing. Also I am trying to figure the best way to do it. Was looking at I lions tea recipe, and was also interested in finding out about the other ways out of curiousity but I lions way looks solid.

I have worked with cacti alot, and yes I would recomend lions tek, the only thing you could do to prep is put into freezer until your ready, it breaks down the cell walls, allowing the alks to come out more freely.

I have five feet of mature pedro concentrated down that I will be consuming in like ten hours If I can lol

let us know how it goes.

Yes my teaing tek does work rather well, and yes freezing it before hand does burst the cell walls but, LOL you also have to wait for it to thaw, or cut it into small cubes and then freeze but, even then you will still have to wait for it to freeze, this will require some prior planning to be had, rather than cutting up the cutting throwing it into the pot and then just boiling the cut up chunks and then smashing with a potato smasher which does the same thing and does it rather well. But, good point nonetheless freeze preping is a good method for sure traveler

I'd save one cutting of each type to root and grow so that you have Bridgesii stock for teaing and Pachanoi for extractions, You'll also have both types to play with, Of course it's up to you bro.

Good luck with whichever path you take.
