Forests of Bufotenin & DMT

While walking Nina at the park today I stumbled across these and thought I'd share. Nina was caught up in a game of 'Come get your shoe back' with the neighborhood kids so I stretched out on a park bench and stared up at the sky. A waving tree branch caught my eye, which I noted looked a lot like Anadenanthera Peregrina 'aka', the Yopo tree.

It turns out I was wrong. Upon closer inspection I found they were really Anadenanthera Colubrina, 'aka' the Vilca tree. Natives have used both Peregrina and Colubrina for thousands of years in making shamanic 'snuffs', predating the use of even Ayahuasca.

Yummy yummy!! But it gets better. I began taking inventory of all the trees in the park and soon realized that these constituted the majority of growth here.. The whole place is just covered with these beautiful specimens, all of which were blooming quite nicely.

These trees are one of the few natural sources of Bufotenin, along with some Amanitas, and the Sonoran Desert Toad 'Bufo Alvarius', from which the active gets its name.

The recipe for both Yopo and Vilca are very simple, mixing small amounts of water and lime with the pre-toasted powdered seeds of either tree. The resulting dough balls are left to to dry and the preparation is complete.

Anadenanthera Colubrina:
5-hydroxy-dimethyltryptamine (Bufotenin)
N,N-Dimethyltryptamine

I've tried pure Peregrina seed before but never in combination with lime, following the native recipes. Fortunately, I'm left over with some calcium carbonate from recent casing projects and if all goes well, I'll post a trip report in the near future.

A warm embrace to all my fellow Topiates.

can you post more detailed photos of the flower and seedpod attachment?

Lots of confusion in this genre. Easy to make mis-identification.

I would but this cam blurs at anything closer than the shots seen above. Even the ones posted are pretty hazy. Specimen location: State of Sao Paulo Brazil.

I wish I could offer a better ID. But resources are limited.

A detailed photograph is necessary for positive ID.

Looks like you make snuff from this? The toasted seeds rather?
Helluva way to get a DMT experience - snort battery acid (essentially, if not prepared properly)
Very Caustic looking
But it certainly fits into botanicals - anyone else tried this?

If I were in south america (where these plants are native), I would try ayahuasca

Good thread man! Thank you for sharing and look forward to a post in 'storming the gates'...if you didn't find those in Brazil, I'd be extra concerned over miss identification, looks like you certainly know what you're doing. I love to hear about different DMT containing plants, and there are not as many reports concerning Yage or Yopo here as I'd like to see...keep up the good work!

Thanx Copelandia and Calaquendi, the little lime and powdered seed balls are drying as I type. When toasting to pop them, they give off a wonderful nutty smell. Being the superstitious flake that I am, I went back to thank the trees and smoke a pipe right before dusk. The Colubrina has this wild quality of folding its leaves together right when the sun is going down. You can actually watch them do this and it makes the whole tree seem so animated...It does the same thing if you pick a branch but it takes a little longer. Here I go rambling again, thanx for the vibes bros, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sorry to be negative, but those pods and the seeds do not look right.
It actually looks to me that you have a form of Acacia(Wattle). Certain Acacia's are a source of DMT but I do not know what type you have.

Kinda up in the air. After doubts arose I wanted to play it safe and get a pro opinion down here where the specimens are located. One says 'aye' one says 'nay' and another isn't sure without better pic quality. Removed the album to post better images but the device is giving me grief. Online resources are really scant as well. Regradless, the 'dendrologist' has offered to introduce me to an extant Colubrina specimen not 2 miles away. That should help quell any future doubts I come across.

Very cool ChimX. I look forward to your trip report also in storming the gates. I really enjoyed your aya account there. Sensitive plants as I call them all in this category are so cool. Just shows again that the bond between plants and animals is a strong one.

Me too!

I've heard one anecdotal report of DMT being found in zoysia, a common lawn grass in parts of the US (and probably other parts of the world too). I haven't found any other info about it, but since various tryptamines do seem to be found in lots of grass species I think analyzing all the common ornamental and lawn grasses may give us some surprises...
