so i'm tryin to get some super close up photographs of trichomes, and i'm wonder what methods people use? i recently purchased a new digicam, its got macro + 6.6x optical zoom lense, and has 6.3 megapixel ccd. operating it at it's highest settings, in macro mode, zoomed in and manual focused all the way in, this is about as close as i can get: ![]() i then went to the local stereoshack and picked up the mini pocket microscope, 60x-100x. looking at some bagweed, i could tell this was going to come in handy. finally i could see trichomes clearly! now to take a pic.... after fiddling around and testing different settings this is what i came up with: ![]() that is the camera right on top of the microscope, zoomed all the way in (both camera & microscope) with manual focus all the way in, and focusing mainly with the microscope's focus mechanism. anybody got any other methods? |

dunno if this would apply to you but... awhile back i was trying to take macro shots of blown glass pieces i had made. my digi cam just wasnt cutting it even though it had the macro and high megapixels and all that then randomly i tried my video camerausing the single frame 'camera' mode and dammmnnn did it take some nice insanly close pics. i dont know anything about photography but it could litterally take a picture with like 5 lines of your fingerprint wide! you litterally couldnt get enough light onto the subject because you could get it so close lol. so yea anyways just throwing it out there that unexpected answers come up alot

I've never been able to get as close as you but here's my ghetto way of doing it with my sony cybershot. I take a macro pic as close as I can get to the trichs and then open it in my pic software while it is as big as possible (3700x2800 or so). I then go to "crop" and pick out the spot where you can see the trichs the best and crop it. I then save it and reopen the pic and repeat the process. I keep doing this over and over until the pic is around 500px or so. ![]() ![]() |

thats what i did with the photo from the camera - highest resolution with as close as i can get - cropped without resizing (up or down, as to not lose image quality) i took it a step further by putting the camera lens up to the microscope eyepiece and got the closeup above. | |

you can also use a higher power magnifying glass, and your digicamera in macro mode. use a tripod to eliminate shakes, which really show when you are trying to take a pic of a small area such as trichomes. don't resize the pic until you've cropped it... nice bright white flouro's help too. ![]() root hairs against peat pot |

Yup, I second Suckerfree. I have gotten some amazing shots with a magnifying glass and a hundred dollar digi camera. The Nikon however doesnt like the magnifying glass for some reason
