![]() | PF Tek with Coir substitute
I remember reading a while back that Hippie, if I'm not mistaken, was going to do an experiment where in the PF tek, brown rice flour was mixed with coir instead of verm. I was wondering if that was ever done and what the results were? I was contemplating doing it myself but I am running low on spores and also coir is very hard for me to get, so I like to use it sparingly. If it hasen't been done yet, I'll volunteer to run the experiment.

Didn't someone have more success, with just coir? I bookmarked http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthread.php?t=8890 (Something you may want to try (FANATICUS 60 Coir Substrate)) since it looked interesting. Not something, I would run out and do with my coir though. Hip's thread with corn was http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthread.php?t=8723 |

![]() ![]() | PF Tek with Coir insted of Verm?
I was wondering if anyone has done an experiment to use coir insted of verm in the pf tek. Its difficult for me to fine verm and coir is very easy, and much cheaper for the amount i can get. Any Ideas? Thanks

I'm sure it would work but, the main problem is getting the moisture content right. Experiments are needed to get good enough data for this technique. So far there hasn't been a lot of them.

well i have a pfc cake fruiting invitro thats half coir and half verm with brf... it works. but i dont that i have the exp. yet to do it without verm completly. ive tried and it did not work at all. the diffreance on the one that worked is that i ground the coir before i hydrated it. and its the only one i tried grinding it first so maybe thats why maybe not. just my 2 cents... |

i have made coir/brf cakes...The main drawback is that the coir has a much lower capacity to hold water as compared to verm...You can offset this difference by dunking at birth and DE casing...Other than that the myc grows very well on that combo... The best method imo is to use the cake for spawn to some medium which is more easily hydrated like pooooooooooooooo...... |
