I've been madly working on a way to never fan again because I have a dirty job and hate going in my grow room with moldy/dirty clothes on.Even when fanning 3 or 4 times a day I notice cobweb and trich far to often and they are both indicators of anaerobic conditions. So I've been perfecting a cheap air/humidity system good for large numbers of tubs for the last year and finally i've got it working just the way i want. I have clear rubbermaid tubs,in the bottom i add perlite as usual then add about a quarter cup of table salt.I've tried bleach,it seems to offgas to much and mushies don't like it.I've also tried h2o2 and find it disapates to quickly for a lasting effect.I tried salt one day out of pure frustration and love it.The ocean has lots of salt but it does not rain salt, water condences and salt stays put.Well as most of us know mushies don't like salt either so we get around that by placing the birthed lumps on top of upside down red plastic Coca-cola trays (found behind gas stations)that have been well bleached of course. So for the best part-save old plastic milk jugs well rinsed out,cut the top off, fill with distilled water run a fish tank type hose into the milk jug with a bubble stone, place this onto the coca cola tray inside the tub (you will need to drill one hole for air line to feed through) and run either a fish bubbler or ....... Run an air compressor/large hydroponic air pump turned down low feeding a manifold made from a 12 foot long (cut as desired) one inch copper pipe with the ends capped off and small plastic/copper valves along the pipe (you will have to drill pilot holes)able to feed 30 or more fish air lines to each of the tubs.Run the air on a continous basis just turn down the valves to barely bubbling.Less air equals higher humidity if things look to wet, just bubble a little more.I sodered in a fitting in the middle of the pipe to fit air line and it balances out the air just nice. |

Hi Could salt be use to regulate RH. In a closed space damp salt will hold it at 75% a little lowere that what we need but might be interesting if a bit of salt in my grow box could help drop RH from 90+ down to 85 for my bulk ... just an idea.... jestah |

i like salt because its great for killing bacteria and yeast that may appear before pinning .With high salt levels i was worried about mushies falling over towards the salt and killing them, its does not seem to kill them but i have seen a little more rosecome than usual (mushies with gills on cap)-it may just be coincidence.

Salt is also an excellent additive to keep your heat bomb water clean.
