Next step, at around 7/22, is to remove bottom rye grass tray and place substrate while in bag at 30-40 F for a few weeks, to simulate winter I suppose.

I do have the rain version 2.0 running full time to keep up the humidity and hope that the rain sounds and vibrations do not confuse the lowly mycelium during this spawn run stage!

To them it must seem like an endless rainy season with plenty of nutes, but with no rain water. I would be confused myself.

May have problems with next step of refrigeration at 30-40F. It seems my refrigerator only goes down to 48F.

    All suggestions appreciated!

Your refrigerator has to go down further than 48. It should at the least go down to 36-38 at it's lowest setting?

take a temp with an air probe and determine the sweet spot....then set a couple milk jugs that have been filled with water and frozen in them and see what you get. you can also make a drip pan system with ice and a catchpan.....perforated pan on top...fill with ice......drip pan on the shelf below it. thats lowtech......

I am using a cheap digital thermometer. Maybe the actual temp is lower. Nonetheless, the coleman cooler should work out and keep me from having to mix my experiment with our food.

    Great news!

Was inspecting the top substrate tray and it seems that almost the entire top layer is covered with hard, rock-like, rust colored sclerotia formations!

Will let it go as long as possible to make sure the entire substrate is colonized and while waiting on the Coleman thermoelectric winter home cooler to arrive this Monday.

Will take lots of pics next week during the next step of removing the rye grass tray nutrient source and placing the substrate tray into its winter home for a couple of months.

    Cheers!

The Coleman thermoelectric cooler arrived and with room temp of around 80F it gets down to about 37F. Looks like it will work well as the winter home for the sclerotia (and a couple of six packs)!

    Cheers!
