I added the cool mist because of same concern!

Changed the timing on cool mist to on for 2 mins and off for 4 mins, for 10 FAEs per hour.

    Hope this works!

The myc is turning rust colored near the base of the cloud like formations. Hope this is a good sign!

A bit of a set back!

After receiving comments from a morel expert, it was noted that the extended mycelium clouds would not fruit and that the top soil casing layer was not a good idea as it is too clay like, which does not promote colonization. This would explain the cloud like structures.

He suggested peat moss with sand added, as needed, for a casing mix. After some research, however, came up with a peat and perlite casing mix at 80/20 by volume. Also, the same expert had noted that removing the nutrient source per the published procedures would produce defective fruit bodies, due to the lack of nutrients during the fruiting stage.

In view of his comments, I have extended the tray by about an inch and a half, mixed in the peat/perlite casing mix into the old casing layer along with the mycelium clouds, and added a nutrient tray of WBS underneath to supply further nutrients to the mycelium while the new casing layer colonizes.

    Accordingly, will keep you posted!

    Cheers!

Extended tray is back in winter mode and will attempt fruiting with new casing shortly!

Wish you the best with the new casing.

I would really like to see someone someday make morel growing easy.

    Thanks Mang!

The commercial morel growers unfortunately keep everything hush hush, so trial and error are my only hope!

Jackal, one thing I've done recently in the last week or so, is found out that there is a common household bacteria that is inhibitory on my black morel spawn and culture. A set of jars that were not mixed with an antibacterial in the nutrient solution grew in patchy patterns; sometimes on just one side of the jar it would grow down, or grow in just one area but nowhere else. Yet in the jars that were mixed with an antibacterial there was uniform growth all across the diameter of the jar and growing downward.
So there is a really bad bacteria out there that will put the ka-womp on your morel mycelium. I'm not sure though if it would matter after sclerotia have formed. Maybe then it would trigger the sexual cycle. But there is another possibility that exposure to light will do it. For all we know the mycelium we see could be just the primary one and only after getting a sclerotium to truly mature and trigger it to send out the secondary kind to get exposed to light on the surface. Loads of possible paths to investigate.
Oh BTW everyone, MSU has taken down the photo gallery for Gary Mills' factory so if you haven't got the hi-res photos I'm sure if Hippie wants to keep a sticky file cabinet on here for them, me or the others that
did consider to download the hi-res can supply them.

    More info

Another thing I'm going to (at least 80% percent on) declare, is that the M. deliciosa here on the east coast near the Ohio river, the yellows the tans the snakeheads that population, well I've never seen spores from none of them like I've seen with these black morels which happen to spew them out like nuts (no pun intended). Yet I have seen a heavy build up of what had appeared to be moisture or condensation build up where the pits were onto the clear plastic bags. Now I know they weren't sweating or evaporating but they must have been ejecting spores which means only one thing that M. deliciosa has transparent spores and will only show up as what appears as condensation. The blacks have an oil vacuole so the build up is opaque.
These yellows and tans have no oil vacuole so they are transparent maybe even colorless.
