Thanks Birdman !

I've heard that the yellows are not as tasty as say the pearl or blue. Whats your opinion ?

Those look great, nicely done!

I don't really like the taste of yellow oysters, but they sure are fun to grow. Sometimes I'll eat them raw in a salad. They taste a bit like cucumber.

The pearl and blue are much slower and I have not had
a good flush yet to taste. The yellows are great producers
and fast but flavor does not compare to the white elm mushroom.
The caps are good but the stems taste like dryad(water mellon rind)
on the yellow ones.Still no complants these jars are only about
15 days old.Fastest and prettyest by far.

I'm glad you showed the jars fruiting like that. This is how I plan to fruit several king trumpet oyster jars right away.

Simple & Sweet

cheers

Very cool wicking of moisture to the newsprint ! Is there a touch of bleach in the water?

Yes,but not to much.I had added to much once and had to flush the aquarium. That's not to bad though,I just pull the hose in the house
empty out aquarium and fill up then let gravity draw out the old water
to the level I want.It is a 75 gallon with a 220 magnum filter charcol
and all that is rigged to a soaker hoase with small holes drilled to
flush the out side walls like a water fall all the way around front and sides.FAE is a vicks coolmist on timer with 2 one inch outlets and hard
one inch pvc.I added foil to out side to maxamize light exposure.
They came out pretty nice this time the stems are not to long and
lanky like most.Guess the FAE is getting better. And the foil creates
more light exposure.I know they should have been picked a little sooner
but they just looked so nice.
HYP,if your going to try this here is a little something I learned along
the way.Put plastic wrap on the top of jar then add ring and polly fill.
I don't know some one has probably done this before. But you will get
realy nice pinning and higher yealds.Once the top of grain is fully colonized I add plastic wrap and news paper then expose to light.
They fruit much faster and fruit nicely.Oh,add a little vericulite to
grain this gives higher yealds also.
Thanks Guys for all the kind words.
You guys are the reason I learned all this stuff thank you so much.
This is one of the best hobbies I have ever had and with the price
of gas these days you just can't beat it.Oh,and good eats too.

Yes,it works out pretty nice. The 220 magnum pump filters the
water and keeps the humidity up nice.I first had the jars on the
stones but the mushrooms were crowed and touching the top.
I put a few coffey cups and a glass shelf in the water side and
now the quart jars have plenty of room to grow as well as for
air flow. They seem to love it in the water. Here is a earler flush
on the rocks you can see how crowed they are and touching top.
I will use the side with the stones for pint sized jars and logs.

foaf was actually debating this with a buddy. its similar to what foaf uses. there will at times be pooling water underneath the black plastic on the bottom of the bins used that is underneath the substrate. a foaf was explaining to another foaf that if he were going to do a setup like the tub in tub setup, then it would be with sitting water with the tub on top and a bubbler. seemed to be a good idea. glad to see that it does work...

the other foaf disagreed and said it sounded like contam city.

I purchased some rye grain spawn made sure it was clean
and made a couple jars of LC with some of the colonized rye.
The jars are millet that was boiled and prepaired like rice.
I add a table spoon of basle and teespoon of liquid calisum
to the water.Once the millet boiles ten minuits or so add
lid turn off and let it absorbe water just like making rice for
15 to 20 minuits or so.Then I add about 15% vermiculite to
the total amount of hydrated millet.Millet will double in size
from boil so keep this in mind when determaning amounts.
Then I knocked each jar of millet up with 10 cc's of LC.
After cool of coarse, then in a cardboard box set about two
foot from radiator. To get nice early fruits after there about
50% colonized start to expose them to light all day.Even just
light from a window. When you start to see bumps in the jars
wrap bottom with newspaper up to neck like you see in pictures.
Remove cap add plastic wrap poke hole for poly fill add poly fill
and add ring back on.This will procuce very nice pinning at top
of jar for fruits to come from.Picture above showes how the
plastic wrap and ring works. You want to continue exposing to
light and when nice pins form remove and place in fruiting chamber.
Every thing was done at room temps 70 to 75 fh.I did notice the
fruits die off below 70 temp on yellow type.We got a cold snap
and heavy winds and tank went down to 65 and they started
getting wilty and turning dark.Good luck hope this helps.
I have pearls and blues coming as well as more white elm
mushroom coming along so I'll post more.Glad you guys enjoy
them they sure are beautyfull.

Just so you know this is not standing water. It is constantly
circulating through a canaster pump with filter and charcoal.
One hose sits in the bottom of the tank in the water. It sucks water
out into canaster that has filter and charcoal to filter water. Then
it's pumped back into tank.
