![]() ![]() | First Oyster Grow
As promised, here is my first oyster grow.... Got a Pleurotus Ostreatus culture syringe from a fellow member, Used it to noc up 4 WBS quarts (prep'ed using Lazlo's tek (Super fast and effective wbs/grain technique.) )After they colonized, spawned to two bags (provided by another great member) of pasteurized straw. Two quarts per bag. The oysters tore that straw up!!!! Introduced light, and within a few days.... w00t, we got pins!!!!!! One bag is ahead of the other for some reason, only grabbed pics of the fruiting one... but the other is well on it's way. The one that is fruting has the one big cluster on the one side, hard to see with my crappy pics, but the other side has about 5 more clusters ready to pop through. Man, I can't wait to munch down on some fresh oysters!!!!!!!! Wanna thank.. jason_ for the culture, crazy1 for the bags, and everyone here, for the inspiration, and knowledge. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fred |

freekin nice man! did you not cut slits all through the bag around it? i've only ever done this on oysters, slit the bag, they tend to BOOM out of the slits, I'd put a 4 x 4 inch slit every six inches between slits. THis image looks as if they're just going invitrro that shows the patch of oysters, those are blues? i'd cut slits like this, and all teh way around it, but that's just me, any other oyster growers agree? I would guess that you'd do fine invitro, but i think most cut the slits, you can see the slits i'm talking about being represented by the rudimentary lame red lines, you can cut them in an X shape, or a cross shape, whatever u choose, but make them slits. ![]() i think that'll help maximize your yield on that big bad ass bag of oyster you have going there! great work! |

Thanks for all the comments, gang... Lime, these are the first things I have grown besides cubes. Sideshow, these worked out just fine, with the process I used, perhaps some more slits, and bigger next time. Gonna use some of these fruits for my first cloning attempt, so very excited about that. Wavelength, tons of good recipes online that I have found, but what I am looking forward to is fried with some onions over a nice rare steak ![]() And definitely a stir fry of some sort...damn I can't wait.. Thought I would post some pics better showing the oyster actually growing OUT of the bag. You can also see the clusters on the other side of the bag better, as well. These things grow pretty fast... Also, got the second bag out of incubation, and into the light. Fred |

Just a few updated photos... These things are growing fairly quick... When do yall think is the best time to harevest? And the best time for printing? Fred Last edited by FredTheSilly; 10-06-08 at 09:48. Reason: stoner - forgot the pics... |

They're looking great! Nice work man. I like how you've suspended the bags off the ceiling. Pick them while they're still young, they look pretty good right now. According to Stamets, once they start producing abundant spores, they're storability is greatly reduced. I never had any success printing those pink oysters, they were fairly close to sporeless. |

Thanks bro!!! That's a shame about the spores, was hoping to get at least one to print, in case my cloning attempts fail. Fred | |

Yay, harvest.. And lunch.. Also, grabbed a piece of inner stipe, and dropped it in LC. Grabbed a few caps, and they seem to be dropping spores... w00t. Have a question about future flushes, do I need to dunk? In the bag, or out? Fred |

Still wondering if I should dunk in the bag or out, or does it matter? Bags are shrinking, with no production for almost a week... They defiantly need water. Guess I'll just throw the bags in some ice water for a couple of hours, and see what they do. Thanks for all the feedback, gang ![]() Fred |
