Very nice! What is your casing layer and what kind of a fruiting chamber are they in?

No, it was taken with 40x objective of an "almost toy" microscope using handheld camera.

Casing layer is about 1cm of 1:1 peat moss / LECA with 5% calcium carbonate.
The fuiting chamber is a transparent 57 liter PP box with an aquarium bubbler for FAE and an inverted large dish drying tray on bottom. Panaeolus is quite easy if given enough air and 24C or higher temperature for fruiting.

(I use crushed LECA as substitite for vermiculite because it works for me and I have it.)

Largest were about 110mm tall with 20mm caps. I use weathered horse manure I have collected and dried myself. (For PF-style Panaeolus: 10 parts LECA, 10 dry manure, 2 whole rye flour, water to capacity.)

For me Panaeolus mycelium grows thru thin casing in a day or two and first pins appear about 6th day. First flush is ready in 10 days from casing fully colonized PF substrate. Some substrains in multispore trays do pin slower but I think 2 1/2 weeks is bit too long.

I agree with rip Space. I have not had a tray or tub go more than 7-8 days before pins.

i am under the impression that goliath just needs more work.
honestly that is one of the best looking goliath casings i've seen. but from my attempt with them and what i've heard it seems to me that they need work. i had 2 casings of multispore that didn't do anything for 3 weeks, while the LgFL fruited great right next to it in the tub.

Maybe you just need a cover crop Space..Heh..

But seriously, the Goliath generally dont fruit as densly as some others from multispore imo ,but they are really a robust and beautifull strain...

What is your setup for that microscopic picture Rip? I'm looking for an adapter for my Pentax K1000 and was wondering if it was worth it. Do you use a digital camera, a computer microscope or a film camera attachment.?
(I don't know if this is an appropriate place to ask that question...)

I've just experimented by taking pics by hand thru an antique ocular with my digital camera (Optio 43 wr) and a Bresser Biolux AL microscope (almost toy, 89€ at Lidl, less at ebay.) The results have been far better than I expected. I'll probably make some kind of adapter one day.
(The microscope comes with a digital eyepiece (low resolution, small field of view, but perhaps usable) but I have no stable Linux driver for it yet, The eyepices and preparation tools which came with it truly suck. Objectives are far better than in childrens toy microscopes. It is usable for viewing microscopic features of mushrooms at 400x. Used medical student scope would be better of course.)
Here are some more images from the same sample, (Pan Goliath mounted in lactic acid / acid fuchsin,) 40x, 100x and 400x with two different focus. Unsharp mask, auto white balance and scale to 800x600 with Gimp. The chromatic aberration on edges is not as horrible visually as in pics. (I did not crop these.)
