![]() ![]() | I started up a few Jars of Pan Jalisco Megasporus obtained from Sporeworks. This is my first grow with this strain. I thought these Waylit 1/2 pints were a total loss after 7 days in the FC with no pins. I was wrong, good thing im lazy and didnt toss em I checked the fc this morning and I seen a bunch of pins on all 6 on the jars, this jar being the most prolific. I also have a plastic shoebox of these spawned to a bulk. I think the jars took a bit longer to fruit due to them being fully colonized in the 1/2 pint for a while. If my theory is correct it just took a lil for the myc to switch gears into fruiting. The shoebox was started from 2 qt jars of WBS from an LC, they were started 2 weeks after the cakes. They were spawned to my usual 20/20/10/50 coir/verm/straw/h-poo that was pasteurized for 90 minutes in a waterbath at a low 155f. Speed of colonization has been very quick for the WBS (roughly a week). I suspect to see fruits alot sooner than in the 1/2 pints from the time it was exposed to fruiting conditions. I attribute this to the momentum of the colo speed. I have noticed that if 'most Pans' go past their alloted time to fruit, then you have problems with them fruiting at all. No pics of the shoebox yet, but more to follow. I am pleasantly stoked and surprised, enjoy ![]() -feds

![]() | Nice feds! yep, patience, or just plain laziness is the way to go lol. You seem to have the pans down nicely! enjoy the fruits of your labor, er uh laziness hehe whichever the case may be. I have a couple questions for ya. Do you use a gb? And, what configuration do you use for jar lids?(tyvek, polyfil etc..) peace, Foster |

![]() ![]() | I snapped some more pics, some aren't that great. Im a little puzzled at how this strain performed. My care was substandard during the crucial phases, I will give it another go though . Im starting from Waylit cakes next time. + ---> My family here at the Topia-feds

![]() ![]() | the least i hope for out of any first grow is at least enough to try the strain out. usually i'm happily rewarded with much better results... but simply being able to taste is enough to hold my interest. looks like you have enough for that. enjoy and hope to see a thread on your second try. |

![]() | Cool, this is the only growlog of this strain I have seen. And a successful one at that. I thought it was all over after you got sick. This is a pretty undomesticated strain. Cultivated mushrooms tend to be small and very pale in coloration. The original wild collection was somewhat larger than the cultivated version. The only notable feature are the exceptionally large spores. One of the few strains I have observed that actually keys out to Panaeolus cyanescens. Great job!

Your pics on Sporeworks of this Strain are breathtaking (all of them are) , I had a question as to how the caps got so pronounced. I noticed the serrated edge of the caps and I was trying to achieve a similar looking fruit. What is your sub and sub ratios for most pans?I will give this strain another try for sure. -feds

![]() | I do all of the pans the same. Quarts of sterilized horse manure and an agar wedge. Once colonized, I put a quart in a tray with a thin casing. Thats it! I do everything small scale.

![]() | I suspect most of the growers of this strain will have gotten it as a freebie or special. I never hype strains and I just wasn't real excited by this one compared to some larger strains grown at the same time. I am sure "The carpophores are small and relatively slow to mature." text at sporeworks.com isn't helping sales The main reason I put it up was because of the large spore trait, and who really cares about that? (besides me) It isn't really that bad though. It is fruitable and thats not true of every pan strain. On a side note, the Queensland true Panaeolus cyanescens is pinning today. The spores are big but aren't quite as big as the Jalisco and the spore shape is very different. A blank template is ready to go if all goes well. ![]() Workman, I was pondering the Texas Copelandia and wondering if that was a true Cyan? Here are some pics, tommorow I will try and take prints. I will assume this will be akin to circumcising a gnat ![]() -feds

![]() | The Texas spores are too small to be Panaeolus cyanescens as described in the literature. The mushrooms are really small, even smaller than the Jalisco on average. It didn't make the cut. I've attached a chart to show the relative sizes. Only the Queensland is in the sweet spot for Panaeolus cyanescens. Jalisco is lumped in with P. cyanescens because there are no descriptions for species with larger spore sizes and some descriptions show a larger potential spore size P. cyanescens. Interestingly, under the microscope, the Texas, Jamaican and Australian appear to be the same species and form a natural grouping, despite the large distances between localities . At this time (and I really need to do more work on this) I would make the following 5 groupings. These will undoubtably change as more samples are examined. It seems like a lot of groups with only 9 strains examined so far. Group I(small transparent spores, dark pins, Panaeolus tropicalis type) Suphanburi Goliath Sandoze Domesticate (domesticated version of Large Florida) Australian RDU (maybe) Group II (small dark spores, distinct cheliocystidia shape) Texas Jamaican Australian Group III (small very dark spores, green metaloids, Panaeolus chlorocystis type) Hawaii Group IV (large spores, pale pins, Panaeolus cyanescens type) Jalisco Queensland Group V (very small spores, cheliocystidia not like Group II, Panaeolus affinis type) Maui

![]() | Yep. No grain at all. Its not efficient but its fine for small scale.
