mushroom chocolates

I don't know if you like the taste of Mushrooms, but personally I hate em. They taste like I stuck a dirty sock in my mouth. This recipe will solve that problem, by making "Perfect" size doses that taste great too.

-THIS RECIPE WILL MAKE APPROXIMATELY 50-55 DOSES-

Ingredients needed for this recipe are as follows

- 1 12oz. Bag Nestle's Toll house chocolate chips
- 1 10oz. Bag Andes Mint chocolate Baking chips
- Double Boiler
- Ice cube Trays
- 1 cup, chopped dried Mushrooms
- Teaspoon
- 1 cup measuring cup
- Rubber spatula


First, get your double boiler and fill the bottom pot with a little under half full of water and place on the oven burner at med/high heat until it comes to a boil. Once the pot comes to a slow boil, turn the temp down to med heat.

Second, dump both bags of chips in the top pot. I recommend dumping the Andes Baking Chips in first. These tend to melt with a more of a liquid consistency. Easier to stir.

While the chocolate is melting in the Double Boiler, I like to chop up my dried mushrooms. To chop them I use an electric chopper.
**Using a coffee grinder makes them too powdery and results in a quick experience. making the mushrooms a little chunkier will help this out in making the night last a little while longer.

after you have chopped up your mushrooms, you need to measure out 1 cups worth and place it to the side for now.

Go back to your chocolate on the stove, and it should be good and melted. Stir it a few times to get a nice smooth texture.

Once that is complete, move the pot to the area that you will be working, and dump the cup of chopped mushrooms into the pot. I recommend using a rubber spatula to stir in the mix. this way you can get all the chocolate, and powdery dust that will stick to the side of the pot.

After you have it good and stirred, you will need to spoon it out into a mold. I use ice cube trays. they make great molds, and are stackable.
**Note when finding ice cube trays make sure that they stack without forming into one another.

Fill each cube with 1 teaspoon full of chocolate. Doing this will result in 1/2 of the cube to be filled. Any more will be massive chunks of chocolate, and can be overwhelming to eat in one sitting.

Make sure you scrape the sides of the pot with the rubber spatula, to get the most out of your recipe. After all your trays have been filled, lightly tap them on the table to even out the chocolate, resulting in a nice smooth finish.

Place them in a fridge for 2 Hrs. or more, and allow to cool.

Once cooled. "Crack" the tray like you would full of ice cubes, and dump out into a small bucket, or tray.

For long term storage, place in freezer. or fridge. If the chocolate turns white, it is still good. It just means it is aging a bit.

I recommend individually wrapping in aluminum foil If transporting to a location where the experience will take place. This will keep them from melting together, and also free from mess.

"Strong trip" is a relative term.
For some, 2 grams is a strong trip.
For others, 6 grams is a strong trip.
It all depends on the person.

a little math to do the calculation-
weigh the cupful of shroom powder
then divide by the number of chocolates
= weight of shroomage per piece
then multiply to = desired dose.

i hate to impose on your thread but since u are talking about chocolates i thought i would chime in with my two pennies.If you were willing to make the chocolates a circle and would like to conceal them nice and stealthily for transport here is an idea i made up(or at least i havent seen it anywhere else)all you have to do is take a 2 pack of reese's cups and cut it open right where one of the ends meets the package and put your chocolates in there and impulse seal(twice in a row in the same place) and it looks brand new.Down below i have included a couple of pics.I know they are in the wrong package but it would also work with the 2 cup packages. I am sorry for the line on the package not being so straight but i am sure i could get it perfect.

Hrmm I tried a method similar to this and the chocolate turned crumbly and dry after I added the ground mushrooms. The shrooms seemed to be cracker dry...I wonder if I just didn't have neough chocolate? I was using about 5 hershey kisses to @ 2g of mushrooms. About the size of a reese's cup but half the height.

I figured maybe I could add some peanut butter and make little peanut butter chocolate mushroom balls...came out too sticky and wet. lol Too much peanut butter I guess...I should have started out lower. I thought it would take twice the amount I tried to use. I'd say I made my mixture roughly 50/50 chocolate and peanut butter. I'm guessing thats where I went wrong.

Gonna try to add more chocolate and then freeze it. Any other suggestions?

Ok I think I figured out the problem, I was just tryin to put too many shrooms in too little chocolate. I've went from trying to have each chocolate be 2g to each chocolate being 1g and I think it'll work out a lot better.

Update: I put them in molds, it worked out to about 1g per chocolate. They went in the freezer and 2 hours later came out just fine. The real question is will they melt easily having peanutbutter in them but then again they'll just sit in a fridge till I wanna eat.

There's bakeware made out of silicone that makes chocolate making real easy, You chill then....pop, and put'r back in the cupboard clean as new

I've threw up from time to time eating raw mushies, never while eating chocolate. Although I've never ate more than 3g of chocolates and I've at 75 wet grams of mushrooms before so maybe its the large dose that has made me sick in the past. When my girl eats some I'll letcha know.
